On the morning of November 8, the practical round of the 2024 Shijiazhuang City Workers’ Vocational Skills Competition for Pharmaceutical Inspectors kicked off at the New Formulation Plant of North China Pharmaceutical Group. Six female contestants selected from Shijiazhuang Sihua Pharmaceutical Group showcased their skills on the same stage, with Xie Meijiao from the Oral Preparations Inspection Department of the Quality Management Center clinching the championship. Gao Jingyi, Han Qingqing, and Gao Feiyue secured impressive fifth, eighth, and tenth places, respectively.
According to reports, the city-wide vocational skills competition for pharmaceutical inspectors consists of two parts: a theoretical exam and a practical assessment. Only contestants who score 70 or above on the theoretical exam are eligible to advance to the practical round. In the theoretical exam held on November 5, all six representatives from the group, thanks to their solid theoretical foundation, secured qualification for the practical final.
“Practical skill competitions are the truest test of professional competence; we must proceed steadily and methodically.” Before the competition, a representative from the group’s trade union who was leading the team offered words of encouragement to the contestants.
This practical skills competition focuses on the determination of acetaminophen content using liquid chromatography, with particular emphasis on sample weighing, sample dissolution, transfer and dilution, routine operation of the liquid chromatograph, result calculation, and record-keeping.
Gently weighing with the wrist, gently rocking to dissolve, inverting and shaking to mix thoroughly—throughout the competition, contestants remained fully focused, racing against the clock as they skillfully operated analytical instruments such as balances, pipettes, and liquid chromatographs, thereby bringing their solid theoretical knowledge and practical skills to full fruition and vividly demonstrating the professional competence and meticulous rigor of the Group’s pharmaceutical testing personnel.
“This time, all the contestants are key personnel in quality-inspection roles at various enterprises, and competing on the same stage has given us valuable opportunities to learn from and exchange ideas with our peers,” said contestant Gao Jingyi. “Just a few days ago, our colleagues from the group swept the top five places in the province-wide injection-manufacturing skills competition, which has been a tremendous source of inspiration for us. We’re determined to seize this opportunity and fully demonstrate our true capabilities and level of expertise.”
In recent years, the Group’s trade union, building on its solid efforts to establish a skills-training base and implement the enterprise-level technician and “mentor-apprentice” systems, has vigorously carried out initiatives such as employee lecture series, mass labor and skills competitions, and the solicitation of rationalization proposals. These activities have sparked enthusiastic participation among employees and yielded remarkable results. Since the beginning of this year, in response to the provincial federation of trade unions’ initiative to deepen reform of the industrial workforce and its wide-ranging “Year of Skills and Labor Competitions” campaign, employees across the Group have actively and enthusiastically taken part, repeatedly setting new records in events such as the injectable-drug production competition, forklift operation contest, and pharmaceutical-inspection-skills competition. This has further inspired employees to pursue career development through skill enhancement and professional growth.
“Skills competitions are a crucial initiative and effective lever for focusing on cultivating new-quality productive forces, accelerating the development of a workforce that is knowledge-based, skills-driven, and innovation-oriented, stimulating employees’ innovative and creative vitality, and enhancing their skills and professional competence.” According to a responsible official from the Group’s Trade Union, the next step will be to follow up on the “second half” of the competition effort by continuously deepening and expanding labor and skills competition activities, exploring the establishment of positive incentive and reward mechanisms for highly skilled personnel and outstanding competition participants, and further igniting a vigorous wave of employee engagement in learning new technologies, upgrading skills, competing in innovation, and making contributions.
