In the face of the rampant outbreak of novel coronavirus pneumonia, during this year’s special Spring Festival, some employees of Shijiazhuang Sihua Pharmaceutical Co., Ltd. have remained on the front lines, silently persevering and making selfless contributions to win the tough battle against the novel coronavirus.

On the afternoon of the 30th day of the 12th lunar month, medical institutions and state-owned pharmaceutical trading companies in Wuhan and Enshi, Hubei Province, urgently called Shisi Pharmaceutical, requesting support with antibacterial drugs such as moxifloxacin hydrochloride.

“The epidemic is grave, and human lives are at stake; urgent clinical needs are orders. Our sales, warehousing, and logistics teams will mobilize fully to support Hubei’s frontline epidemic control efforts.” At noon on the first day of the Lunar New Year, as soon as two dedicated freight trucks were in position, they immediately loaded and dispatched 100,000 bags of moxifloxacin hydrochloride sodium chloride injection—a critical supply urgently needed in Hubei—bound for Wuhan and Enshi in Hubei Province to bolster frontline disease prevention and control.

Following the outbreak, clinical institutions in Hubei, Beijing, and other regions urgently requested Shisi Pharmaceutical to expedite the supply of additional antibacterial and antiviral medications. “Given that it was the Spring Festival period, we did face significant challenges in securing sufficient manpower, transportation capacity, and raw and auxiliary materials. However, the epidemic is an order, so we spared no effort to increase our inventory, reallocate transport resources, and ensure that frontline prevention and control efforts have the medicines they need,” said Su Xuejun, Chairman of Shisi Pharmaceutical, who was overseeing operations at the shipping site.

Faced with the urgent need on the front lines of epidemic prevention and control for antiviral and antibacterial drugs, Shisi Pharmaceutical promptly shortened its holiday, mobilized all resources to ramp up production and expedite shipments, and reassigned management personnel to support packaging operations at the production front line. On New Year’s Eve and the first day of the Lunar New Year, Shisi Pharmaceutical produced and warehoused more than one million capsules of the antiviral drug Arbidol and 20,000 drums of disinfectant. “We have implemented expedited testing for all incoming products and issued complete test reports by 11 p.m. on New Year’s Eve, ensuring that we can fulfill shipment requests at any moment,” said Wu Hengyao, General Manager of Shisi Pharmaceutical, at the shipping site.

“As epidemic prevention and control measures continue to improve, diagnostic and treatment protocols as well as the range of clinically used medications have become increasingly well-defined. Among these are antiviral and antibacterial drugs manufactured by Shisi Pharmaceutical, including Arbidol and moxifloxacin hydrochloride injection.”

On the 30th day of the twelfth lunar month, Hubei, Beijing, Hebei, and other regions successively activated the Level-I response mechanism for major public health emergencies. Beijing’s designated hospitals for epidemic prevention and control also urgently contacted Shisi Pharmaceutical, requesting assurance of the supply of antiviral and antibacterial drugs as well as disinfectants during the Spring Festival. “On the one hand, we are stepping up production and stockpiling, maintaining close communication with provincial and municipal health commissions and drug administration authorities in accordance with requirements, promptly reporting inventory levels, and making scientific arrangements for clinical and market supplies; on the other hand, staff in sales, logistics, supply, finance, and other departments remain on duty throughout the holiday period, on constant standby, so that as soon as an order is issued, we can immediately organize shipment to meet the medication needs of frontline prevention and control efforts,” said Wu Hengyao.

As demand for antibacterial and antiviral formulations continues to rise, the API production workshop at Shisi Pharmaceutical has promptly adjusted its holiday schedule and arranged for an early resumption of production to ensure adequate supply for formulation manufacturing. “In the face of the epidemic, we in the pharmaceutical industry have an unshirkable responsibility,” said Su Xuejun. “Our employees fully understand this and have eagerly volunteered to return to work. At this critical juncture in the fight against the novel coronavirus, our sense of responsibility and commitment is being put to the test. We must give it our all and cannot afford to fall behind.”
