These days, Mr. Ma, an employee of Shijiazhuang Sihua Pharmaceutical Co., Ltd., regularly stops by the company canteen to pick up a portion or two of stir-fried dishes and staple foods to take home and enjoy with his family. During the pandemic, the company’s trade union has gone all out to provide thoughtful support for employees as they resume work and production, alleviating their concerns and ensuring that they can devote themselves fully to the fight against the epidemic and the effort to maintain supply.
Shijiazhuang Fourth Pharmaceutical is one of the key enterprises designated by the provincial and municipal governments to ensure the production and supply of epidemic prevention and control materials. Since the outbreak, in order to meet the urgent demand for essential medicines on the front lines in Hubei and other regions, Shijiazhuang Fourth Pharmaceutical has been racing against time and making every possible effort. Its employees voluntarily gave up their Spring Festival holiday and worked overtime to maintain production. During this critical period of epidemic prevention and control, the trade union of Shijiazhuang Fourth Pharmaceutical has instructed the logistics department to provide timely support and services, thereby alleviating workers’ concerns and enabling them to focus on production with peace of mind.
“The cafeteria meals have indeed improved compared with the past,” said Song Mingxia, chair of the trade union. “The food is good, and sometimes we even take some home, which gives us more time to rest at home.” She added that the company has increased its investment in improving employees’ living conditions, and these heartwarming initiatives have made workers on the front lines of epidemic prevention and production feel deeply cared for by the enterprise.
As the “family” and “caring confidant” of its employees, the Trade Union of Shijiazhuang No. 4 Pharmaceutical Co., Ltd. puts itself in the employees’ shoes and addresses the urgent needs of the enterprise. It also spares no effort in assisting frontline production teams to resolve practical problems. When it became apparent during the pandemic that employees were facing difficulties in procuring the masks essential for both production and epidemic prevention, the union went to great lengths to secure supply sources and actively reported the issue to higher authorities, thereby effectively resolving the problem and ensuring the timely provision of personal protective equipment to frontline workers. In response to the psychological anxiety experienced by employees returning to work, the union promptly provided psychological counseling and vigorously promoted a “two-point, one-line” work-and-life model among staff, thus safeguarding employees’ health and maintaining stable production operations. In addition, the union made appropriate arrangements for staggered meal times in phases and batches, thereby reducing the risk of COVID-19 transmission associated with large gatherings.
Currently, all production workshops at Shijiazhuang Sihua Pharmaceutical have resumed operations. Thoughtful employee support has boosted morale, enabling the company to gradually restore output of various dosage forms to pre-pandemic levels. In particular, production capacity for the antiviral drug arbidol hydrochloride capsules and the antibacterial drug moxifloxacin hydrochloride sodium chloride injection—both critical emergency medications—has been rapidly ramped up, thereby effectively meeting the medication needs on the front lines of epidemic prevention and control.
