Immediately following the National Day holiday, on October 11, Shijiazhuang Sihua Pharmaceutical Co., Ltd. announced another piece of good news: its developed lacosamide tablets (50 mg and 100 mg) have been granted drug registration certificates by the National Medical Products Administration and are deemed to have passed the evaluation of quality and therapeutic equivalence for generic drugs. The approval of this product is of significant positive importance for further enriching the company’s solid dosage-form product portfolio.
According to available information, lacosamide is a sodium channel modulator that regulates sodium channel activity, effectively reducing sodium influx and decreasing neuronal excitability, thereby achieving the therapeutic goal of treating epilepsy. It is indicated for monotherapy and adjunctive therapy of partial seizures in patients aged 4 years and older with epilepsy.
Lacosamide, an anti-epileptic drug with a novel dual mechanism of action, was originally developed by UCB in Belgium. In 2020, global sales of lacosamide reached US$1.656 billion, and the market is currently experiencing rapid growth.
