September 25, 2022, marked the 14th World Pharmacists Day. Today, the launch ceremony for the World Pharmacists Day publicity campaign—jointly hosted by the Hebei Provincial Drug Administration and the Hebei Pharmaceutical Society under the theme “Hello, Pharmacist!”—along with the inaugural Hebei Outstanding Pharmacist Awards Ceremony, was held at Hebei Radio and Television Station. Ding Jinxia, a member of the Standing Committee of the Hebei Provincial Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference and President of the Hebei Pharmaceutical Society, and Wu Hongru, Deputy Head of the Publicity Department of the Hebei Provincial Party Committee and Party Secretary and Director of Hebei Radio and Television Station, presented awards to four recipients of the first Hebei Outstanding Pharmacist Award, including Tang Jianhua from the First Affiliated Hospital of Hebei North University and Yang Xian from Shijiazhuang Sihua Pharmaceutical Co., Ltd.

According to available information, World Pharmacists Day was established in 2009 by the International Pharmaceutical Federation (FIP) to highlight the critical role pharmacists play in ensuring the safe and rational use of medications. By leveraging the expertise of pharmacists, the initiative aims to optimize medication regimens, reduce medication errors, promote the appropriate use of drugs, and safeguard public medication safety.

Ding Jinxia, a member of the Standing Committee of the Provincial Political Consultative Conference and President of the Provincial Pharmaceutical Society; Wu Hongru, Deputy Director of the Publicity Department of the Provincial Party Committee, Secretary of the Party Committee and Director of Hebei Radio and Television Station; Xu Yanzeng, Deputy Secretary of the Party Leadership Group and Deputy Director of the Provincial Administration for Market Regulation, as well as Secretary of the Party Leadership Group and Director of the Provincial Drug Administration; Jiang Dong, Member of the Party Leadership Group and Vice Chairman of the Provincial Science and Technology Association; Wang Jianting, Member of the Party Committee and Deputy Director of Hebei Radio and Television Station; and Wang Lianshui, Su Xuejun, and Liu Meng, Vice Presidents of the Society, along with Wang Yibing and Sun Yinyan, Vice Supervisors of the Society, attended the launch ceremony. Pharmacists’ representatives from medical institutions, pharmaceutical enterprises, research institutes, and higher education institutions across the province also took part in the event.

Xu Yanzeng, Deputy Secretary of the Party Leadership Group and Deputy Director of the Provincial Administration for Market Regulation, as well as Party Secretary and Director of the Provincial Drug Administration, stated in his address that, thanks to pharmacists’ professional clinical oversight, the public’s rational use of medications has continuously improved; and thanks to pharmacists’ meticulous and attentive pharmaceutical services, medication safety for the general public has been more effectively safeguarded. In a quiet yet profound manner—“like the wind that slips in through the night, moistening all things without a sound”—they have silently contributed to the province’s pharmaceutical and health-care endeavors. The “Outstanding Pharmacist” and “Pharmacists Talk About Medicines” Outstanding Science Communication Video Selection Event, co-hosted by the Provincial Drug Administration and the Provincial Pharmaceutical Society, aims to further standardize pharmacist management in the province, inspire pharmacists across the board to devote themselves with greater enthusiasm to the noble cause of ensuring medication safety for the people, highlight the admirable social image of the pharmacy profession as a dedicated and unsung force, promote and guide pharmaceutical manufacturers, distributors, and users to adhere to standardized medication practices, ensure patient medication safety, and thereby accelerate and enhance the development of the province’s pharmaceutical and health-care sector.

Since its launch in August, the inaugural Hebei Outstanding Pharmacist Selection and the “Pharmacists Talk About Medicines” Science Communication Short Video Competition have progressed through local nominations, media showcases, and public voting, ultimately recognizing four outstanding pharmacists and eight exemplary “Pharmacists Talk About Medicines” science communication short videos in Hebei Province. The recipients of the Outstanding Pharmacist title are: Tang Jianhua from the First Affiliated Hospital of Hebei North University; Wang Moli from the Hebei Provincial Institute for Drug and Medical Device Testing; Li Nan from Handan People’s Hospital; and Yang Xian from Shijiazhuang Sihua Pharmaceutical Co., Ltd.

The event is hosted by the Hebei Provincial Drug Administration and the Hebei Pharmaceutical Society, co-organized by Hebei Radio and Television Station, and guided by the Hebei Association for Science and Technology.
