In the first month of the year, Shijiazhuang Sihua Pharmaceutical Group has been delivering one excellent piece of news after another in research and development innovation.
On January 31, the isoprenaline hydrochloride active pharmaceutical ingredient developed by Sihua was approved for registration and production, making the company the second in China to receive such approval. Since the start of the year, the group has secured registration approvals for eight new products, marking a strong “opening sprint” for its R&D and innovation efforts in the first month.

On January 31, the API of isopropyl epinephrine hydrochloride developed by Siyao Pharmaceutical was approved for registration and production, making the company the second in China to receive such approval. Since the start of the year, the group has secured registration approvals for eight new products, marking a strong start to the year in R&D and innovation.
On the morning of February 1, temperatures plummeted; yet within the drug research institute of this key backbone biopharmaceutical enterprise, one could feel a vibrant atmosphere of innovation at every turn.
Stepping into the analytical laboratory of the Shijiazhuang Sihua Pharmaceutical Group Research Institute, one is greeted by bright lights and a team of highly skilled professionals—there is no sign of slackening despite the approaching Spring Festival. Looking around, more than 100 high-performance liquid chromatographs are neatly arranged, each diligently “holding the fort” and operating at full speed. Meanwhile, researchers seated at rows of computer workstations outside the floor-to-ceiling glass windows are intently sorting through the experimental data streaming in in real time.
“This January marked a strong start for our research and development efforts, and these achievements truly reflect the hard work and dedication of the R&D team at Sihua Pharmaceutical over the past year,” said Wang Lijiang, Executive Deputy Director of the Sihua Research Institute, as he inspected experiments in the liquid-phase laboratory. He went on to note that last year Sihua secured approval for 88 new products—more than double the number from the year before. To date, the company has had a total of 72 drug varieties comprising 96 dosage forms approved through evaluation, placing it among the leaders in the industry in terms of the number of approvals obtained. Speaking about these accomplishments, Wang Lijiang recounted them with evident pride and enthusiasm, his brow relaxed and a slight smile playing on his lips, his face radiating both pride and excitement.
“To sustain this momentum and achieve breakthroughs that transcend traditional boundaries, we must continue to invest heavily in innovative drug development, ensuring that generic drug R&D and innovative drug R&D advance in tandem,” said Wang Lijiang.
A few days ago, SYN-045, the second Class I innovative drug developed by SinoPharm, received approval to commence clinical trials. Yang Xian, Director of Innovation at the SinoPharm Research Institute responsible for the development of this new drug, is currently conducting dissolution evaluation assays with her colleagues. She speaks quickly and decisively, moves with a brisk pace, and exudes efficiency in every gesture. “SYN-045 is a novel therapeutic agent for pulmonary arterial hypertension independently developed by SinoPharm. Preclinical studies have demonstrated its favorable target selectivity, potent compound activity, and excellent safety profile. Since the start of its development, it has attracted considerable attention, so we must accelerate its advancement.”
Today, Siyao has nearly 200 new products in development, with high-end complex formulations, improved new drugs, and innovative drugs accounting for close to 30% of the pipeline. The company’s innovation capabilities are continuously strengthening, enabling it to undergo a remarkable transformation—from a business model dominated by a single injectable product to diversified growth across the entire pharmaceutical value chain.

On one side of the clean and tidy corridor in the experimental area of the Four-Drug Research Institute, a prominently displayed promotional sign outlining the company’s management philosophy immediately catches the eye. Wang Lijiang pointed to it and said, “For example, the ‘Three Zeros’ refer to zero excuses, zero delays, and zero rework in our work—this is both a requirement and a standard. For R&D projects, the more we have holidays, the more we must accelerate progress.”
Gazing at everyone’s busy figures, Wang Lijiang said that Shijiazhuang has already taken the lead in achieving its goal of building a biopharmaceutical industry cluster worth hundreds of billions of yuan. Moving forward, consolidating these innovative achievements and further promoting the “Good Chinese Medicines—Made in Shijiazhuang” brand will be an even greater challenge. During the Spring Festival, some R&D personnel at Sihua Pharmaceutical will remain on duty.
