Recently, Hebei Guolong Pharmaceutical Co., Ltd. of Shijiazhuang Sihua Pharmaceutical Group was recognized by the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology as a “Little Giant” enterprise specializing in niche fields and demonstrating innovative strength, marking a solid step forward for the company on the path of accelerating high-quality development through specialization, refinement, distinctiveness, and innovation.

In recent years, Guolong Pharmaceutical has closely aligned itself with the Group’s integrated API–formulation development strategy, kept pace with industry trends, and focused on specialty and innovative APIs. Leveraging collaboration among industry, academia, research institutions, and end-users, the company has adopted a development positioning centered on refined, serialized, and specialized products. It has vigorously built an enterprise-driven innovation system with technology platform development and new-product R&D as its core, while tackling key “bottleneck” technologies such as API crystallization and nanofiltration membrane filtration. To date, the company has obtained 21 invention patents, participated in or contributed to the formulation of 20 national standards, and established an incremental innovation model characterized by “a batch of R&D projects, a batch of technology transfers, and a batch of pipeline assets.” As a result, a steady stream of specialty new products—covering areas such as anti-infectives, volume-expanding agents, respiratory medications, psychotropic drugs, and innovative therapeutics—has moved from the laboratory to commercial production lines. In 2023, the company led the province in the number of API applications filed and currently holds marketing approvals for 28 specialty API products, making it an affiliated supplier to numerous well-known domestic formulation manufacturers.

Moving forward with “newness” and scaling new heights through “intelligence.” Relying on intelligent manufacturing, Guolong Pharmaceutical continuously unleashes new momentum. By consistently carrying out technological upgrades, the company accelerates innovation, technology, product development, environmental protection, and safety improvements, thereby effectively speeding up the commercialization of innovative achievements and their industrial application. Its two signature active pharmaceutical ingredients—hydroxyethyl starch and buxanerine—have successively been recognized as Hebei Province’s Manufacturing Single-Champion Products, elevating the company to the ranks of provincial specialized, refined, distinctive, and innovative SMEs, provincial demonstration enterprises for such characteristics, and provincial benchmark enterprises for quality in the industrial sector.

According to reports, national-level “Little Giant” enterprises specializing in niche markets are the top performers among specialized, refined, distinctive, and innovative SMEs. These companies are leaders that focus on specific market segments, possess strong innovation capabilities, enjoy high market shares, master critical core technologies, and deliver superior quality and efficiency. Cultivating such “Little Giant” enterprises is one of the key initiatives currently being undertaken in China to promote the high-quality development of SMEs and serves as a vital driving force for industrial upgrading and transformation.
