On October 11, benzenesulfonate of cisatracurium, developed by Hebei Guolong Pharmaceutical Co., Ltd. of Shijiazhuang Sihua Pharmaceutical Group, was approved by the National Medical Products Administration and registered as an active pharmaceutical ingredient for use in marketed dosage forms. Since the beginning of this year, the group has secured approval for 18 new specialty API products.

According to available information, cisatracurium besylate is a medium-duration neuromuscular blocker used in surgical and other procedures as well as in intensive care settings. As an adjunct to general anesthesia or for sedation in the intensive care unit (ICU), it relaxes skeletal muscles, thereby facilitating endotracheal intubation and mechanical ventilation. Owing to its rapid onset of action, minimal accumulation, relatively rapid elimination from the body, and lack of histamine release, it is widely employed in clinical anesthesia.
In recent years, Shijiazhuang Sihua Pharmaceutical Group has adopted a multi-pronged approach to continuously optimize its product portfolio, accelerate the R&D and commercialization of new active pharmaceutical ingredients (APIs), and emphasize an integrated “API-plus-formulation” development model.
