Setting new goals and pressing forward with renewed vigor. On January 19, Shijiazhuang Sihua Pharmaceutical Group held a conference at the R&D Center’s auditorium to unveil its 2025 R&D innovation objectives. Leaders of the Group, including Qu Jiguang, Zhang Guozhen, Sun Lijie, and Yu Zhou, joined more than 600 research professionals in a collective effort to chart a course for R&D innovation that prioritizes leading the way, shouldering major responsibilities, and making significant contributions. The event was chaired by Tian Pengmei, Executive President of the Group and General Manager of the Strategic Development and Human Resources Center.

The meeting commenced with briefings by the heads of the Group’s R&D Center—specifically the APIs Research Institute, Solid Dosage Forms Research Institute, Liquid Dosage Forms Research Institute, Complex Formulations Department, Innovative Drugs Research Institute, Technology Transfer Center, Research Management Department, Patent Affairs Department, and Analytical Center—as well as the Guangxiang Pharmaceutical Research Institute and the Bosheng Medical Devices Research Institute, on the 2024 research and development performance and the key priorities for 2025. Subsequently, Group leaders Qu Jiguang, Zhang Guozhen, Yu Zhou, and other relevant executives provided focused commentary on the priority R&D projects and put forward specific requirements.

In 2024, the Group’s extensive team of researchers prioritized practical action and proactive initiative, working diligently to overcome challenges and achieve breakthroughs. As a result, they secured approval for 82 new products, including 61 dosage forms and 21 active pharmaceutical ingredients. To date, a total of 151 product specifications across 114 varieties have been approved through evaluation, placing the Group among the top domestic players in terms of both the number of R&D applications submitted and those approved, thereby delivering substantial achievements in research and development.

The conference announced and commended the Group’s outstanding employees and departments for research and development innovation. Representatives from two exemplary departments—the Liquid Formulations Division II and the Innovation Department of the Group’s R&D Center—and 12 distinguished individuals, including Chen Bichu, who hail from the Group’s R&D Center, Guangxiang Pharmaceutical Research Institute, and Bosheng Medical Devices Research Institute, confidently took to the stage in turn to receive their cash awards and certificates from Qu Jiguang and Yu Zhou, earning warm applause from the entire audience in celebration.

Amid warm applause, Qu Jiguang, Chairman of the Group’s Board of Directors, delivered a concluding address. He briefly reviewed the achievements made in research and development over the past year and outlined his expectations and requirements for comprehensively and solidly advancing R&D innovation in 2025.

Qu Jiguang pointed out that 2025 marks both the concluding year for implementing the 14th Five-Year Plan and the year for formulating and laying out the 15th Five-Year Plan, meaning that the tasks ahead are heavier, the pressure is greater, and the challenges are more numerous. Therefore, it is of paramount importance to deliver outstanding innovation in 2025. He warmly encouraged all researchers to “innovate, innovate, and innovate again; improve, improve, and improve once more,” to put hard work first and strive with vigor and determination. With even firmer resolve, greater enthusiasm, and more pragmatic action, they should proactively rise to new challenges and shoulder the arduous mission of driving the company’s development.

Qu Jiguang emphasized the following four priorities: First, we must steadfastly pursue a research-and-development approach that integrates generic drug innovation with original innovation, leveraging the integrated development of active pharmaceutical ingredients and finished dosage forms to accelerate the pipeline development of innovative drugs, improved innovative drugs, high-end specialty generics, and specialized high-end APIs and pharmaceutical packaging materials. By harnessing innovation mechanisms involving industry–university–research collaboration and application, we will break through barriers to the industrialization of high-end formulations and strive to establish new competitive advantages in R&D efficiency, regulatory submission, and approval processes. Second, we must deepen the management of our R&D system, focusing on enhancing R&D efficiency and quality, continuously advancing the deep integration of performance evaluation and incentive mechanisms, effectively transmitting accountability and ensuring clear assignment of responsibilities, so that performance-management systems such as the “race-based” and “elimination-based” models continually inspire and energize R&D personnel to actively contribute to the company’s innovation-driven development. Third, we must keep a close eye on market needs in our R&D efforts, making market service the central focus of our R&D activities, firmly establishing a “big marketing” mindset, and systematically refining collaborative mechanisms between R&D innovation and market development that are tailored to our own growth requirements, thereby ensuring that more market-oriented products serve as the robust core support for the Group’s marketing initiatives to achieve leapfrogging and overtaking. Fourth, in alignment with key R&D priorities, we must concentrate on tackling and breaking through critical core technologies, collectively resolving a number of “bottleneck” challenges, and enhancing the overall effectiveness of our innovation system.

“Innovation makes dreams come true, and hard work paves the way for the future.” Attendees from the R&D community unanimously expressed that this conference is not only a review and deployment meeting but also a rallying call to set out on a new journey. They pledged to remain humble and vigilant, benchmark against industry leaders, and approach their work with a sense of responsibility that leaves them “never fully at ease.” By setting new goals, achieving new milestones, and steadfastly ensuring effective implementation, they aim to deliver tangible results in enhancing the quality and efficiency of research and development, thereby contributing a satisfactory outcome to the Group’s drive for innovative, high-quality growth.
