【SUMMARY】 On May 15, a themed lecture titled “Promoting the Model Worker Spirit and Passing on Artisan Skills,” organized by the Enrollment and Career Guidance Center and the Department of Biopharmaceutical Technology at Shijiazhuang Institute of Information Engineering, was held in the tiered classroom of the Zhi Xin Building on campus. Wei Saili, a Hebei Provincial Model Worker and Deputy General Manager of the R&D Center at Shijiazhuang Sihua Pharmaceutical Group, served as the keynote speaker, sharing her journey of hard work and professional insights with more than 200 faculty members and students in attendance, thereby vividly conveying the spirit of model workers and artisans in the new era.

On May 15, a themed lecture titled “Promoting the Model Worker Spirit and Passing on Artisan Skills,” organized by the Enrollment and Career Guidance Center and the Department of Biopharmaceutical Technology at Shijiazhuang Institute of Information Engineering, was held in the tiered classroom of the Zhi Xin Building on campus. Wei Saili, a Hebei Provincial Model Worker and Deputy General Manager of the R&D Center at Shijiazhuang Sihua Pharmaceutical Group, served as the keynote speaker, sharing her journey of hard work and professional insights with more than 200 faculty members and students in attendance, thereby vividly conveying the spirit of model workers and artisans in the new era.

During the presentation session, Wei Saili delivered a talk titled “Setting Sails with the Model Worker Spirit: Building a Path of Youthful Struggle,” focusing on such themes as “How to Interpret the Model Worker Spirit,” “Equipping Youth with a ‘Spiritual Engine,’” “From ‘Inspiration’ to ‘Action,’” and “Making the Model Worker Spirit the Underlying Character of Youth.” Using a temporal framework, she provided a detailed account of her professional journey: from the unwavering dedication and focused commitment she demonstrated when first entering the field—“to excel in whatever one does”—to the bold, fearless spirit she displayed in the face of technical barriers—“the tougher the challenge, the more we press forward”—culminating in a profound sense of national devotion encapsulated in the motto, “Success need not be mine; yet my contribution will surely be part of that success.” When discussing the team’s development of SYN-045, an innovative active pharmaceutical ingredient for treating pulmonary arterial hypertension, she vividly recounted the arduous process they endured through hundreds upon hundreds of experimental trials before finally overcoming a critical bottleneck: “Every 1% improvement in yield entails hundreds upon hundreds of parameter adjustments. But in the world of active pharmaceutical ingredients, there is no room for ‘close enough’—because in this realm, every digit after the decimal point is a lifeline for both the company and its patients.” Through her work and that of her team, the model worker and artisan spirit of “staying true to our original aspiration, never losing heart or compromising, and striving for excellence” has been transformed into a tangible, palpable vision of relentless endeavor. In her message to young students, she particularly emphasized the importance of internalizing the model worker spirit as a driving force for personal growth and externalizing it as a commitment to taking responsibility and action, so that they may strive to become new-generation builders who possess both professional competence and a deep sense of national devotion.

During the interactive Q&A session, student representatives eagerly posed questions on topics such as “How to become a qualified skilled professional” and “The development of the pharmaceutical industry and career planning.” Drawing on her own experiences, Wei Saili provided thoughtful answers one by one. Her resolute reply—“There is no ‘easy win’ in life; only a life of relentless striving can be truly remarkable”—elicited enthusiastic applause from the entire audience of faculty and students. Xiao Wang, a student in Class 2 of the Pharmacy Business and Management Department, Class of 2024, remarked: “Teacher Wei’s story of perseverance has deepened my understanding that there are no shortcuts to success. Only by staying grounded and persevering with unwavering effort can we continue to grow and achieve breakthroughs on our future career path.”

In recent years, Shijiazhuang Sihua Pharmaceutical Group has continuously deepened the reform of building a contingent of industrial workers for the new era. By fully leveraging the exemplary and leading role of model workers and skilled artisans, the group has fostered a positive ecosystem in which talent drives innovation and innovation fuels development. The group has successively recognized a number of outstanding role models, including Xia Guolong, recipient of the National May Day Labor Medal, and Wei Saili, a Model Worker of Hebei Province, thereby powerfully demonstrating the company’s talent-driven corporate philosophy of “respecting labor, valuing skills, and encouraging creativity.”

According to reports, the “Model Workers and Skilled Craftsmen Enter Schools” initiative was launched and championed by the Shijiazhuang Municipal Federation of Trade Unions. Its aim is to fully leverage the leading and exemplary role of model workers and skilled craftsmen, pass on and showcase their skills and expertise, enhance students’ aspirations for their future careers and their vision for life, foster a societal ethos that honors labor as the most glorious, noble, great, and beautiful endeavor, provide strong support for accelerating the development of a high-quality contingent of knowledge-based, skills-oriented, and innovation-driven industrial workers, and further advance the reform of building the industrial workforce in the new era.
