Shijiazhuang, March 9 — According to People’s Daily Online, this year’s International Women’s Day on March 8 is particularly special for female workers who are tirelessly fighting on the front lines of epidemic prevention and control as well as production.
They were once the well-behaved and adorable daughters in their parents’ eyes, the gentle and virtuous wives in their husbands’ eyes, and the kind and loving mothers in their children’s eyes—ordinary people just like us. In the battle to contain and control COVID-19, they donned work uniforms as battle gear, fearlessly fighting on the front lines of production, giving their all day and night without rest, and demonstrating a sense of responsibility and commitment that truly proves “women are every bit as capable as men.”
In Shijiazhuang, a major national pharmaceutical production hub, female employees at numerous pharmaceutical companies have taken up frontline roles in the fight against the epidemic, showcasing their finest professional and personal qualities. This spring, “flowers of resilience in the face of the epidemic” are blooming amid the cold winds.
Rong Yanyan, director of the Oral Preparations Workshop at Shijiazhuang No. 4 Pharmaceutical, has been steadfastly holding her post for one and a half months, inspecting the appearance quality of products on the production line.
Even with delicate shoulders, they shoulder great responsibilities; women are in no way inferior to men.
Rong Yanyan is the director of the Oral Preparations Workshop at Shijiazhuang Sihua Pharmaceutical Co., Ltd. On New Year’s Eve, after briefly settling her young child at home, she hurried to the factory, becoming one of the first “going-against-the-flow” employees at Shijiazhuang Sihua—and she stayed on for a full month and a half.
After more than forty days of relentless work, Rong Yanyan can no longer recall the specifics of the moment she volunteered for duty, but the conviction—“If war breaks out, I will answer the call and return; we will surely prevail”—has taken firm root in her heart.
Even with delicate shoulders, she shoulders great responsibilities—women are in no way inferior to men. The oral dosage-form workshop where she works is tasked with producing antiviral reserve supplies, including arbidol hydrochloride capsules and disinfectants, in response to the pandemic. Faced with one challenge after another as production resumed following the Spring Festival, she tirelessly brainstormed solutions; when individual efforts fell short, she coordinated resources across the enterprise to find a way forward.
Before this slender yet resilient figure, one challenge after another was overcome, and one obstacle after another was “cleared,” culminating in the successful integrated transformation of the Arbidol capsule production line, which boosted efficiency by 20%. Meanwhile, the disinfectant production line, empowered by technological innovation, abandoned the “mass manpower” approach and saw a substantial increase in output.
“The Arbidol capsules and disinfectants produced here have been continuously dispatched to the front lines of epidemic prevention and control. Hearing that patients in Wuhan are now using the medicines we produce fills us with pride and a deep sense of responsibility and mission as pharmaceutical professionals—to do our part, however modest, to support Wuhan and to cheer on China.”
Within her relatively small area of responsibility, she logs more than 30,000 steps every day, her hurried pace a testament to her relentless busyness and hard work. Like Rong Yanyan, workshop deputy directors Tian Lili and Yang Junhong also remain steadfast on the front lines around the clock.
On International Women’s Day, when asked what her wish was, she replied: “I am a Party member—persevere, persevere, and persevere again, until the moment we achieve victory over the epidemic!”
Han Shuqin (center), Deputy General Manager of Production at Shijiazhuang Sihua Pharmaceutical, has been on the front lines, coordinating and directing operations to ensure the successful completion of the mission to dispatch medicines to Hubei.
We must not fall behind when the nation needs us most.
Also working tirelessly on the front lines of epidemic prevention and control and production is Han Shuqin, Deputy General Manager in charge of manufacturing at Shijiazhuang Sihua Pharmaceutical. On January 24, when the company was set to resume operations, she was in the hospital caring for her ailing elderly mother. Upon receiving the call, she immediately got up, bid farewell to her aged mother with a deep sense of guilt for being unable to be by her side, and rushed to the factory to take charge of command and coordination. In rallying employees to return to work, she said, “Now is the time when our country needs us most; the people of Sihua must not fall behind and bring shame upon ourselves.”
On New Year’s Eve—the time for family reunions—the oral dosage-form workshop at Shijiazhuang No. 4 Pharmaceutical was brightly lit. Thanks to her tireless efforts, the production lines for arbidol hydrochloride capsules and disinfectants were swiftly brought back online, providing a steady stream of “supplies” and “ammunition” to support the fight against the epidemic.
Faced with rapidly growing demand, raw and auxiliary materials were frequently in short supply, at one point severely constraining production. “Everything else can be put on hold, but during the most critical phase of the epidemic, we must never compromise on safeguarding the public’s health needs! Every additional dose produced provides an extra layer of protection for everyone’s health and bolsters society’s confidence,” she said. Despite the challenges, she spared no effort to mobilize every available resource to support production.
To date, Shijiazhuang Sihua Pharmaceutical has cumulatively dispatched 3.962 million capsules of Arbidol to Hubei Province. In response, the Hebei Provincial Department for Ensuring Supplies in the Fight Against the Epidemic commended Shijiazhuang Sihua Pharmaceutical for its excellent production and supply assurance efforts.
Yet in Han Shuqin’s view, who among us does not carry deep concern in our hearts? It is precisely because they harbor an even deeper, more profound love that many heroic women have chosen to press on through thick and thin. It is their tireless efforts on the front lines of production that have built the most steadfast “women’s fortress” in the fight against the epidemic.
