The water-injection formulation production line in Workshop 104 of Shijiazhuang Sihua Pharmaceutical has commenced production for the Year of the Ox.

In the early spring, within the garden-like campus of Shijiazhuang Sihua Pharmaceutical Co., Ltd., a major backbone pharmaceutical enterprise in Hebei Province, willows are lush and green, and a dazzling array of flowers are in full bloom. In the first quarter of this year, the company achieved double-digit year-on-year growth in both total industrial output value and sales revenue, securing a strong start to the year.

Stepping into the production workshop of Shisi Pharmaceutical, one is met at every turn by the busy figures of employees, while automated equipment hums cheerfully, radiating a vibrant, spring-like energy. Wu Hengyao, President of Shisi Pharmaceutical, stated: “Recently, we endured the severe test of the pandemic. With the support of the government and all sectors of society, we spared no expense in doing everything possible to safeguard the market and stabilize production, thereby maintaining steady operations and laying a solid foundation for achieving a strong start to the first quarter.”

In the intravenous solution injection workshop, the “three-in-one” polypropylene ampoule small-volume injection production line’s filling equipment is running at high speed, with neatly arranged products rapidly streaming off the conveyor belt in orderly rows. “Doxofylline Injection and Ambroxol Hydrochloride Injection are two new products that have recently passed the consistency evaluation; prior to the Spring Festival, they both won bids in the fourth round of national centralized drug procurement, setting a strong start for expanding production and broadening our market share throughout the year,” said Wu Hengyao. He added that, among these two winning bids, Ambroxol Hydrochloride Injection will be exclusively supplied to three provinces and municipalities—Shanghai, Tianjin, and Qinghai—while Doxofylline Injection will enjoy exclusive supply in six others: Hubei, Yunnan, Chongqing, Heilongjiang, Inner Mongolia, and Ningxia.

Wu Hengyao said excitedly: “Winning this bid to supply first-tier cities such as Shanghai and Tianjin will vigorously advance Shisi Pharmaceutical’s ‘deep cultivation’ and ‘broad expansion’ in the domestic market, positively and profoundly impacting our efforts to increase market share, further optimize our product portfolio, and comprehensively enhance the brand influence of Shisi Pharmaceutical.”

In recent years, large-volume parenteral solutions have been Sihua Pharmaceutical’s flagship product, with its soft-bag IV solutions commanding roughly half of the national market for such products. In the past, Sihua was primarily known for manufacturing large-volume parenterals; today, however, the diversified and integrated innovation spanning small-volume injectables, oral formulations, active pharmaceutical ingredients, and pharmaceutical packaging materials has injected a new momentum of rapid, high-quality growth into the company.

In the oral dosage-form workshop of Siyao, more than ten production steps—from material preparation and ingredient blending to filling, aluminum-plastic blister packaging, machine assembly, quality inspection, heat-sealing, and boxing—are carried out with precision, efficiency, and orderly coordination. “Our workshop is responsible for products that have won bids in national and regional centralized procurement programs, which involve large purchase volumes and tight delivery schedules. The greater the pressure, the more rigorously we must adhere to process specifications; there can be absolutely no carelessness in any stage of production, ensuring that every single tablet or capsule meets the highest quality standards and stands up to market scrutiny,” said Yang Yuxia, the workshop director. She added that the workshop faces a heavy production workload, with its annual output fully scheduled, while new products are continuously being introduced and transferred into production.

Abundant innovation achievements have bolstered Shijiazhuang No.4 Pharmaceutical’s confidence and momentum for growth in the Year of the Ox. In recent years, the company has taken optimizing its product portfolio as a strategic entry point, accelerating the R&D of innovative drugs and conducting rigorous evaluations of the quality and therapeutic equivalence of generic drugs, thereby positioning itself among the industry leaders in innovation performance. Notably, in the development of generic drugs and in consistency evaluation studies, the company secured 24 approvals of various types in just the first quarter alone, including four drug products across five dosage forms that have either passed or are deemed to have passed the generic drug consistency evaluation. To date, Shijiazhuang No.4 Pharmaceutical has had 12 drug products comprising 17 dosage forms approved—or deemed to have been approved—under the national consistency evaluation program, effectively obtaining the “entry ticket” for national centralized drug procurement. The number of approvals and the pace of progress place the company at the forefront of the industry.

“We are currently developing more than 160 new products, covering clinical areas such as antivirals, antibacterials, cardiovascular therapies, gastroenterology, and anesthesia. In the near future, Shisi Pharmaceutical’s long-standing dominance in the intravenous infusion segment will be reshaped, with the coordinated development of multiple dosage forms emerging as a key driver of the company’s future growth. Innovation will empower and amplify our competitive advantages, enabling us to capture even greater market share.” Wu Hengyao said confidently. “In the past, our products were primarily concentrated in North China, Northeast China, and Northwest China; however, in recent years, thanks to continuous optimization of our product portfolio and active participation in regional centralized drug procurement tenders, our market presence has gradually expanded into South China, Southwest China, Central China, and other regions.”

In March, Shisi Pharmaceutical secured production approvals for two new products: bromhexine hydrochloride injection and metronidazole sodium chloride injection. Moving forward, the company will seize the golden window of market adjustment to accelerate product launch and market support in tender-winning regions, while making all-out efforts to prepare for the next round of national centralized procurement bidding. At the same time, it will proactively explore and develop forward-looking, industry-leading markets, striving to achieve “more than half” of its second-quarter targets on both revenue and profit fronts.
