With favorable winds at our backs, we are poised to set sail once more. In early autumn, the provincial capital enjoys clear skies and wispy clouds. On the afternoon of August 21, the auditorium of the Pharmaceutical Research Institute of Shijiazhuang Sihua Pharmaceutical Group was aglow with bright lights and buzzing with a vibrant atmosphere, as nearly 400 R&D professionals from across the group gathered to review the company’s innovation efforts from January through August, analyze and assess the current industry landscape, and deliberate on how best to seize the rare opportunities presented by the ongoing restructuring of the pharmaceutical sector and Shijiazhuang’s strong support for the biopharmaceutical industry to achieve breakthroughs ahead of others. The meeting also mapped out priorities for the remaining four months and beyond, with the aim of further advancing the group’s high-quality development in the new era to a new level and realizing new leaps forward.
Qu Jiguang, Chairman of the Board of Shisiyao Group; Su Xuejun, Chairman of the Group; Sun Lijie, Executive President of the Group and General Manager of the R&D Center; and other leaders attended the conference. The event was chaired by Wang Lijiang, Executive Deputy General Manager of the Group’s R&D Center.
At the meeting, the heads of the API Research Institute, Liquid Formulation Research Institute, Solid Dosage Form Research Institute, Innovative Drug Research Institute, Medical Center, Registration Affairs Department, Information and Project Initiation Department, and Human Resources Department reported on the progress of their work from January to August, as well as on the key priorities for the remaining four months and beyond. Group leaders Qu Jiguang, Sun Lijie, and others reviewed the progress of priority research projects and offered suggestions for improvement.
Sun Lijie, Group Executive President and General Manager of the R&D Center, and Wang Lijiang, Executive Deputy General Manager of the R&D Center, each delivered summary remarks on the key priorities of R&D work. Sun Lijie provided a comprehensive review of the new achievements made in the Group’s R&D and innovation efforts during the first eight months of this year, objectively analyzed the challenges and opportunities ahead, and put forward specific measures and requirements for further strengthening talent development, enhancing the sense of responsibility and accountability among managers and R&D personnel, accelerating the quality improvement and pace of research projects, and refining the performance appraisal, reward, and elimination mechanisms.
In his concluding remarks, Qu Jiguang, Chairman of the Group’s Board of Directors, pointed out that, through arduous efforts, the Group has continuously adapted to the evolving demands of the new era, new circumstances, and new missions, gradually establishing an innovative development model in which generic drugs, innovative drugs, active pharmaceutical ingredients, and pharmaceutical packaging materials advance in synergy. This has paved the way for the Group’s research and innovation to embark on a “high-speed track” characterized by scientific rigor, institutionalization, and standardization. At present, the company has more than 200 products in development, with over 60 already submitted to the National Medical Products Administration for approval, and on average secures approval for more than two new products each month. These encouraging figures have drawn widespread attention from the industry, as new products continue to inject fresh momentum into the Group’s sustainable development. He expressed his heartfelt respect and sincere gratitude to all research personnel for their tireless efforts and significant contributions in advancing the enterprise’s high-quality, innovation-driven growth.
In recent years, Shijiazhuang Sihua Pharmaceutical Group has placed great emphasis on R&D innovation and has actively improved the research and living conditions of its R&D personnel. By raising salaries, providing preferential housing, and offering free company-provided transportation, the company has continuously inspired its scientific and technical staff to enthusiastically and confidently contribute to the enterprise’s innovative development. The company warmly encourages young R&D professionals, emphasizing that opportunities favor those with prepared minds and that diligence and hard work are especially rewarded. Young people should harbor ambitious aspirations; as Sihua continues to grow and expand, it offers a broad platform for R&D personnel to showcase their talents. The scope of one’s dreams determines the size of the stage—so young professionals must courageously shoulder the important responsibilities entrusted by the times, grounding their research in the front lines of scientific innovation, production transformation, and market service, and thereby making even greater contributions to the company’s leapfrog development.
To further enhance R&D and innovation efforts, Chairman Qu Jiguang emphasized the following four key priorities: First, we must strengthen the guiding role of the innovation-driven development strategy to elevate R&D and innovation to new heights. This requires aligning with the Group’s industrial development and product positioning, leveraging the strategic leadership of innovation, and ensuring robust top-level design and effective implementation of R&D deployment. Adhering to the principles of proactive follow-up, careful selection, and strategic prioritization—knowing what to pursue and what to refrain from—we must clearly define the primary focus areas and breakthroughs for scientific research and innovation. Second, we must advance R&D and innovation in a thorough and pragmatic manner, guided by a professional ethos and a craftsman’s spirit. Researchers should maintain a sense of reverence, consciously benchmark against best practices, and deliver greater contributions to the enterprise’s development. Third, we must continuously strengthen talent development. This involves actively attracting diverse, high-caliber professionals, prioritizing practical application and demand-driven recruitment, and fostering internal talent development through integration into the corporate culture while adopting flexible and innovative approaches to talent identification and deployment. Fourth, we must rigorously implement performance assessment and incentive mechanisms, ensuring that responsibilities are fully assigned, progress is closely monitored, and rewards and penalties are appropriately applied, so that high-quality R&D and innovation can drive high-quality enterprise development. We must earnestly fulfill our responsibilities, stay laser-focused on our objectives, adopt a “map-based management” approach, break down goals and tasks into specific milestones, and ensure that all project assignments are executed precisely and without compromise.
The summary conference left the R&D team thoroughly energized and deeply inspired. All attendees pledged to unite as one, pool their strengths, and carry forward the fine traditions of sustained, relentless effort, keeping pace with the times, and working tirelessly. They committed to pursuing concrete results through diligent and pragmatic action, boldly shouldering the glorious mission of innovative development. Embracing the spirit of “If others do one part, we will do ten; if others do ten, we will do a hundred,” they vowed to redouble their efforts and deliver a satisfactory performance for the Group, thereby making new contributions to advancing the Group’s high-quality development and enabling Shijiazhuang’s biopharmaceutical industry to achieve breakthroughs ahead of the rest.
