Embarking on a new journey with confident strides and setting sail once more. On the morning of February 4, the Group’s R&D Center held a 2023 Policy and Goal Launch Conference in its auditorium, themed “Anchor New Goals, Compete on New Tracks, and Press Ahead on a New Journey.” Leaders Qu Jiguang, Su Xuejun, Sun Lijie, Song Mingxia, and other senior executives joined R&D personnel to review the innovation achievements of 2022, outline a grand blueprint for achieving new breakthroughs in the group’s high-quality, innovation-driven development, and recommit to advancing R&D efforts with renewed determination. The conference was chaired by Wang Lijiang, Executive Deputy General Manager of the Group’s R&D Center.

At the meeting, heads of the R&D Center’s Solid Dosage Form Research Institute, Liquid Dosage Form Research Institute, Innovative Drug Research Institute, Active Pharmaceutical Ingredient Research Institute, Medical Center, Analytical Center, Technology Transfer Center, and relevant functional departments presented reports on the progress of their work in 2022 and on key priorities for the future. Group leaders Qu Jiguang, Su Xuejun, Sun Lijie, and others provided comments on and set requirements for priority research projects.

The conference announced the list of advanced departments and units within the R&D Center, as well as the recipients of outstanding contributions and exemplary workers. Representatives of the honored individuals and collectives confidently ascended the stage and received cash awards, certificates, or trophies from Group leaders Qu Jiguang, Su Xuejun, and Song Mingxia, prompting enthusiastic applause from the entire audience in celebration.

Sun Lijie, Group Executive President and General Manager of the R&D Center, provided a comprehensive summary of the achievements made in the Group’s R&D and innovation efforts in 2022, objectively analyzed the new challenges and opportunities ahead, and put forward specific measures and requirements for further enhancing the quality and pace of research projects, strengthening talent development and recruitment, and refining the performance appraisal system.

“The past year has been marked by countless achievements, and the new year calls for even greater progress.” Qu Jiguang, Chairman of the Group’s Board of Directors, expressed full appreciation for the announcement of task objectives across all departments of the R&D Center and extended his congratulations to the outstanding teams and individuals honored. He noted that in the just-concluded year of 2022, the Group’s extensive R&D workforce, guided by innovation-driven development, actively implemented the Group’s “API + Formulation” development strategy, working tirelessly day and night with a strong sense of responsibility and commitment. As a result, they achieved remarkable R&D results: the number of newly approved and submitted products remained at the forefront of the national industry, effectively promoting the optimization and upgrading of the company’s product portfolio, significantly enhancing the company’s industry image and market position, and making a prominent contribution to the Group’s innovative, high-quality development. This historic shift in the Group’s innovation-driven development—from focusing on “whether or not we have it” to emphasizing “how fast and how well”—fully demonstrates that Siyao now boasts an innovative team that is bold, tenacious, and determined to win, capable of shouldering the critical mission of driving the company’s leapfrog advancement. This gives the company greater confidence and composure in facing the challenges ahead.

Qu Jiguang emphasized that the Group has reached a critical juncture in its transformation and upgrading, standing at a new historical vantage point and inflection point. This confluence of new opportunities and new challenges bestows upon R&D personnel an even more arduous yet glorious mission and set of tasks. He called for maintaining the Group’s leading edge in the submission and approval of generic drug applications domestically, and for shifting the innovation capacity of researchers from imitation-based manufacturing toward discovery-driven exploration. He further urged continuous elevation of the level and capability of scientific and technological innovation, fostering deep integration among the innovation chain, industrial chain, and value chain to achieve the goal of building a technologically strong enterprise at a higher level. It is also essential to continually deepen the collaborative mechanism for tackling key core technologies and products, leveraging mechanisms such as “listing-and-appointment” and “race-track” approaches to accelerate R&D and the commercialization of research outcomes, thereby empowering greater corporate growth. Moreover, the Group should adopt an open-minded approach to cultivating, attracting, and utilizing talent, breaking through the “glass ceiling” that constrains the career development of research professionals and creating a broader platform for them to fully demonstrate their capabilities. Finally, the Group must further refine its evaluation mechanisms for research projects and talent, thoroughly study and implement the “Three Zeros, Five Leads, Seven Focuses” management methodology, and continuously improve incentive schemes and performance appraisal measures for research projects, so as to steadily enhance the enterprise’s sustained creativity and endogenous momentum.

“Though the road may be long, perseverance will bring us to our destination; though the task may be daunting, determined effort will ensure its success.” Qu Jiguang warmly encouraged all R&D personnel across the Group to cultivate a spirit of relentless ambition, to infuse their youth with a vigorous, striving attitude, and to live up to the times and to the precious years of their lives. With a sense of urgency—knowing that time waits for no one and that every moment counts—they should forge ahead with unwavering resolve, taking each step and making the most of every day on the new Long March. They must sustain that same drive and passion, remain humble and uncomplacent, courageously shoulder their missions and responsibilities, and strive to realize their aspirations and make significant contributions to the enterprise’s innovative development, so that the blossoms of youth may bloom in vibrant splendor along the journey of scientific research and innovation.

The policy and objectives launch conference and the recognition ceremony have greatly energized and inspired the Group’s vast ranks of R&D personnel. All participants expressed their commitment to embracing the spirit of hard work and the courage of pioneers—daring to blaze trails no one has trodden before, breaking free from conventional thinking and path dependency, and steadfastly maintaining the heroic resolve and vigorous fighting spirit of “the more arduous the challenges, the more we press forward.” They pledged to ground themselves in their respective roles, consciously strive for world-class standards, proactively benchmark against leading peers, maintain high efficiency and a fast pace at all times, and approach every task with a sense of urgency and determination to overcome obstacles and surmount difficulties. They will continue to actively join the dynamic tide of our passionate era, ensure that all innovation goals and tasks are implemented on schedule, write outstanding performance records that reflect the achievements of each individual, and endeavor to secure even greater victories and glory on the new journey of the new era.
