【SUMMARY】 On February 20, as the city lights began to twinkle, the Zhuhai Hall of the Zhuhai Convention and Exhibition Center was abuzz with excitement. Hosted by the Southern Institute of Pharmaceutical Economics under the National Medical Products Administration, the 34th National Pharmaceutical Economic Information Release Series—among which the highly anticipated 2022 China Pharmaceutical Economy Person of the Year selection was held—saw the grand unveiling of the winners. Su Xuejun, Chairman of Shijiazhuang Sihua Pharmaceutical Group, was honored with the title of “2022 China Pharmaceutical Economy Person of the Year.”

On February 20, as the city lights began to twinkle, a vibrant atmosphere prevailed in the Zhuhai Hall of the Zhuhai Convention and Exhibition Center. The 34th National Pharmaceutical Economic Information Release Series—hosted by the Southern Institute for Pharmaceutical Economics under the National Medical Products Administration—and one of its highlight events, the 2022 China Pharmaceutical Economy Person of the Year Awards, was solemnly announced here. Su Xuejun, Chairman of Shijiazhuang Sihua Pharmaceutical Group, was honored with the title of “2022 China Pharmaceutical Economy Person of the Year.”

In the award citation issued by the conference organizing committee, it was noted that, at this pivotal juncture of transformation and upgrading in the pharmaceutical industry and its transition toward high-quality development, Su Xuejun has led Shisi Pharmaceutical with an extraordinary spirit of “creativity,” “responsibility,” and “perseverance.” By focusing on genuine needs and championing original innovation, the company has adopted the posture of a nation strong in pharmaceutical innovation, proactively seizing the strategic commanding heights of industrial development and innovation. As a result, the enterprise has unleashed unprecedented dynamism, demonstrated remarkable vision and ambition on the global stage, and emerged as a shining “star” benchmark leading the new mainstream of China’s pharmaceutical economy today.

In the face of new developments in both domestic and international markets, in 2022, under the leadership of the Group’s Board of Directors, Shijiazhuang Sihua Pharmaceutical aligned itself with industry frontiers and market demands, accelerated the integration of its resource advantages—including raw materials, talent, technology, and capital—and strategically positioned its innovation chain around the industrial value chain. As a result, research and development of generic drugs, innovative medicines, specialty APIs, and products undergoing consistency evaluation advanced rapidly. The company’s efficiency and volume of specialty generic drug R&D have consistently ranked among the top in China’s pharmaceutical sector, and its innovation capabilities now place it among the top 50 Chinese chemical-pharmaceutical R&D firms. Guided by innovation, the company has accelerated its move up the value chain, achieving a transformative upgrade from “single-industry dominance” to “multi-sector development.” At the same time, with a focus on the “dual circulation” strategy, the company has actively expanded into both domestic and overseas markets, resulting in robust sales growth for finished dosage forms, APIs, and pharmaceutical packaging materials despite adverse market conditions. Key financial indicators reached record highs, enabling the company to climb significantly in the ranking of China’s Top 100 Pharmaceutical Enterprises.

The “China Pharmaceutical Economy Person of the Year” is hailed as the “Oscar” of China’s pharmaceutical economy. Co-organized by the Southern Institute for Pharmaceutical Economic Research under the National Medical Products Administration and the Pharmaceutical Economic News, it is the most professional and influential award in China’s pharmaceutical industry. The recipients are carefully selected through a multi-stage process: candidates are first nominated by the judging panel, then rigorously evaluated by a panel of experts. Each honoree serves as a quintessential exemplar of China’s current pharmaceutical economy, having made outstanding contributions to driving the sector’s transformation and upgrading, leading innovation in products and markets, optimizing capital deployment, and promoting green manufacturing.

This year’s selection process takes the trajectory of pharmaceutical industry development as its coordinate system and defines the essence of the “Person of the Year” as “uniting the leading forces that are forging ahead on a new journey.” Candidates are evaluated against four key criteria—responsibility, innovation, resilience, and influence—with the aim of honoring industry role models who relentlessly pursue accountability, earn international recognition, demonstrate steady diligence, deliver outstanding performance, and embody the vision of building a powerhouse in pharmaceuticals and revitalizing the nation through robust industrial development—while also recognizing the rising backbone of the sector as it embarks on this new chapter.
