What exactly is a “nanobullet”? It refers to nano-sized drug particles developed by Shijiazhuang Sihua Pharmaceutical Group using nanomedicine formulation technology, capable of delivering precise and effective therapeutic action directly to the site of disease.
At 8:00 p.m. on February 29, the dissolution testing laboratory of the R&D Center at Shijiazhuang Sihua Pharmaceutical Group was still conducting dissolution tests on the SYN-045 new drug tablet.
Seeing that the data on the smart monitoring dashboard consistently remained within the target range, Sun Lijie, General Manager of the Group’s R&D Center, smiled and told reporters: “This new drug has low solubility and is poorly absorbed by the human body. However, after adopting ‘nano-bullet’ technology, the improvement in absorption is truly immediate.”
SYN-045 is a Class 1 innovative drug for pulmonary arterial hypertension that was entirely independently developed by Shijiazhuang Sihua Pharmaceutical Group. To ensure optimal therapeutic efficacy, Sun Lijie employed a specialized device to reduce the particle size from 10 microns to 100 nanometers and coated the particles with a proprietary surface material, which not only enhances absorption but also enables rapid adhesion to the surface of the diseased tissue.
“It is precisely thanks to the support of new technologies that, on January 26, the investigational drug SYN-045 received the Clinical Trial Approval Notice from the National Medical Products Administration. ‘We conducted more than a hundred sets of animal studies, and the drug’s efficacy and safety in animals both surpassed those of comparable imported products,’ said Sun Lijie.”
On May 12, 2023, General Secretary Xi Jinping emphasized during an inspection of the planning exhibition hall at the Shijiazhuang International Biopharmaceutical Park that we must strengthen basic research and enhance our capacity for scientific and technological innovation, so as to firmly keep the lifeline of biopharmaceutical industry development in our own hands.
It is not just Shijiazhuang Sihua Pharmaceutical Group that has kept the General Secretary’s instructions firmly in mind and steadfastly pursued innovation-driven development. As you walk through the Shijiazhuang International Biopharmaceutical Park, the very air seems to be infused with the spirit of innovation.
“As the end-to-end industrial ecosystem continues to mature, the agglomeration effect of the park is becoming increasingly pronounced,” said Li Qinghui, Executive Deputy Director of the Management Committee of the Shijiazhuang International Biopharmaceutical Park. He added that last year alone saw the introduction of 70 biopharmaceutical projects with a total investment of RMB 21.34 billion.
To establish an innovation service platform for enterprises, the Shijiazhuang High-tech Industrial Development Zone has completed and put into operation the Central Innovation Zone, which houses 245 shared large-scale pieces of equipment. In addition, the Hebei Tsinghua Research Institute, the National Medical Products Administration’s Center for Inspection of Special Drugs, and the Provincial Medical Products Administration’s Center for Inspection and Review of Drugs and Medical Devices have signed agreements to establish operations there, and construction has commenced on the Science and Technology Innovation Valley project.
“Innovation moves one step ahead, and development gains momentum.” At the recently concluded Two Sessions of Shijiazhuang City, another piece of good news was announced: in 2023, Shijiazhuang’s biopharmaceutical industry took the lead in surpassing the RMB 100 billion mark.
