With the wind at our backs, we forge ahead on the waves; rallying our oars and hoisting our sails, we set out on a new journey. On August 3, Shijiazhuang Sihua Pharmaceutical Group held an annual mid-year review and awards conference for its R&D efforts, during which the company took stock of its R&D and innovation activities in the first half of the year and outlined key priorities for scientific research and development in the second half. Leaders of the Group, including Qu Jiguang, Su Xuejun, Wu Hengyao, and Sun Lijie, attended the meeting, which was chaired by Wang Lijiang, Executive Deputy General Manager of the Group’s R&D Center.
At the meeting, heads of the various departments and divisions of the Group’s R&D Center, as well as the R&D leaders of Guangxiang Pharmaceutical, Bosheng Medical Devices, and Hanlin Biotechnology, presented reports on the implementation of the first-half-year research plans and on their strategic planning for key priorities moving forward. The Group’s leadership in attendance then provided a comprehensive review and evaluation of the innovative achievements attained in the first half of the year and the progress of key research projects.
The meeting announced and commended the advanced collectives and individuals who achieved outstanding results and demonstrated exceptional performance in R&D and innovation during the first half of the year. Su Xuejun, Chairman of the Group, and Wu Hengyao, President, presented certificates, cash awards, and trophies to the 12 outstanding employees and two representative departments that were honored, prompting enthusiastic applause from the entire audience in celebration.
At the meeting, Sun Lijie, Group Executive President and General Manager of the R&D Center, provided a comprehensive review of the new achievements attained by the R&D Center in research and innovation during the first half of the year, analyzed the current situation and tasks, and set forth requirements for further enhancing the quality and effectiveness of research projects, stimulating endogenous momentum and innovative vitality, and accelerating the improvement of R&D performance.
Since the beginning of this year, the Group’s extensive team of researchers has forged ahead with a relentless drive for innovation, achieving rapid progress in integrated API–formulation R&D. Supported by sustained efforts and strategic accumulation, innovative development has yielded abundant results: in the first half of the year, 61 new products were submitted for approval, of which 56 were granted; a total of 95 drug varieties across 127 dosage forms have now passed regulatory review. R&D quality and efficiency have surpassed last year’s levels, while the Group’s innovative influence and competitive edge have reached new heights.
Qu Jiguang, Chairman of the Group’s Board of Directors, extended warm congratulations to all research personnel for their remarkable achievements in overcoming difficulties and embracing challenges, as well as to the outstanding departments and individuals who have been recognized. He noted that the Group’s R&D endeavors are currently at the best period in their history, with high-level innovation platforms becoming increasingly sophisticated, research mechanisms growing more mature, and the research workforce steadily expanding—thus laying a solid foundation for harnessing innovative momentum across the Group. Thoroughly reviewing the accomplishments of the first half of the year and identifying existing shortcomings is crucial for boosting confidence, clarifying objectives, accelerating progress, and further enhancing all R&D and innovation activities in the second half of the year. He emphasized that, in the face of a severe and complex pharmaceutical market environment, we must adopt a more proactive attitude and take more decisive action, embodying the spirit and determination to “strive for excellence and seize every opportunity,” pool our collective wisdom and efforts, continuously stimulate endogenous motivation and innovative vitality, accelerate improvements in R&D efficiency, and propel the Group’s R&D and innovation to a new level.
To ensure the successful execution of R&D and innovation efforts in the second half of the year, Qu Jiguang put forward three key requirements: First, steadfastly pursue an R&D strategy that integrates generic development with innovation—using generics to sustain and drive innovation—and continuously optimize the product pipeline in alignment with both corporate growth objectives and market demand, thereby elevating the overall capacity for innovative development. Second, refine the existing R&D portfolio by balancing quantity with quality, maintaining our competitive edge, and achieving new breakthroughs in the development of innovative drugs, particularly differentiated, high-end, complex generic formulations. Third, strengthen basic research in a substantive manner, ensuring equal emphasis on R&D and translation, continually improving the efficiency of translating innovative discoveries into commercial applications, enabling more innovations to move from the laboratory to the production line, and promptly converting our innovation advantages into market, competitive, and sustainable growth advantages for the company.
Qu Jiguang warmly encouraged all researchers to take the spirit of the Third Plenary Session of the 20th CPC Central Committee as their guiding principle, steadfastly focusing on the cutting edge of industrial science and technology, the main front of the economy, major national needs, and the health and well-being of the people. He urged them to fully leverage the role of leading technology enterprises, vigorously promote a research-and-development ethos characterized by bold striving and selfless dedication, and maintain a humble, prudent, and steady work style—viewing yesterday’s achievements as a benchmark for improvement and today as a new starting point. With a sense of urgency and a commitment to making the most of every moment, they must rise to the innovative mission entrusted by the times.
Innovation knows no bounds, and the pursuit of excellence is an unending journey. The summary conference has inspired and energized the Group’s vast community of researchers, bolstering their resolve and motivation. All participants pledged to keep firmly in mind General Secretary Xi Jinping’s important instruction to “develop and produce more ‘Chinese medicines’ that are tailored to the genetic heritage and physical characteristics of the Chinese people,” to remain true to our original aspiration of “making high-quality medicines for the people,” to stay focused on achieving our year-round research-and-innovation goals, and to work diligently and strive to excel. Through concrete action, we will shoulder the mission and responsibility of driving R&D innovation and translating scientific breakthroughs into practical applications, thereby contributing our youthful energy to writing a new chapter of science-and-tech-driven enterprise strength in the context of Chinese modernization.
