Zhao Shifeng, a batching operator in the oral dosage-form workshop of the High-tech Zone, 38 years old, with 8 years of service at the company.

Formulation is the first step in the production of oral dosage forms. During this year’s Spring Festival, Master Zhao Shifeng and two other colleagues were continuously working to expand production of Arbidol capsules in the workshop. On the 29th day of the 12th lunar month, Master Zhao began his day at just after 7 a.m. and kept busy until 2 a.m. the following morning before finally returning home. “The production schedule for Arbidol capsules is extremely tight,” he said. “If we fall behind, it will affect the entire workshop’s output, so we have to work overtime to get the job done.”

Zhang Mengli, 28, Team Leader of the Aluminum-Plastic Packaging Section in the Oral Dosage Forms Workshop of the High-tech Zone, with 7 years of service at the company.

She had been working consecutive shifts for several days straight before the Spring Festival. In recent days, due to the high demand for Arbidol capsules, the workload at the aluminum-plastic packaging station has increased significantly compared with normal times. “With the Spring Festival approaching, the production tasks are heavy, and I can’t help my family with anything,” she said. “To fight the epidemic, as long as the workshop needs me, I’ll be on duty during the afternoon shift at any time.”

Han Huijuan, 38, with 18 years of service at the company, is the Shift Supervisor for Secondary Packaging and Primary Packaging in the Oral Dosage Forms Workshop of the High-tech Zone.

Han Huijuan is an expectant mother. On the 30th day of the twelfth lunar month, despite being six months pregnant, she worked from 8 a.m. until 10 p.m., successfully completing her day’s production targets. She said, “My husband and I are both employees at the Fourth Pharmaceutical Factory. ‘We make medicines to save lives—producing just a little more means an extra measure of health security for everyone. It’s no big deal for young people to put in a bit more effort.’”

Zhao Yafeng, 43, Team Leader of the Outsourced Packaging Section for Oral Preparations at the High-tech Zone, with 17 years of service at the factory.

Since before the New Year, production tasks have become increasingly demanding, and the workshop has switched to shift work. After finishing her day’s duties, she still has to properly arrange the mid-shift schedule before she can go home. Often, when problems arise during the midnight shift, on-site staff still need to contact her by phone or via WeChat video to resolve them. “As a senior team leader, I must devote myself wholeheartedly to my work in order to earn the trust of my colleagues,” she says.

Disinfectant, oral liquid, and traditional Chinese medicine extraction technician Gu Yongjun, 34 years old, with 11 years of service at the factory.

On the first day of the lunar new year, he received a call instructing him to return to work and stay late to produce disinfectant. Upon hearing the news, he immediately hailed a taxi in his hometown of Luquan and rushed back to the company, where he worked alongside management staff who had come to assist in production to complete the first batch of finished products.
