However, as the epidemic situation grew increasingly severe, the factory issued an emergency call on New Year’s Eve, urging employees who had just returned home for the break to promptly return to work, restart production lines, and do everything possible to support frontline efforts in epidemic prevention and control by supplying urgently needed medications such as arbidol hydrochloride capsules, moxifloxacin hydrochloride sodium chloride injection, and disinfectants." said Han Shuqin, Deputy General Manager in charge of production at Shijiazhuang No. 4 Pharmaceutical Co., Ltd.

Zhao Shifeng, a batching operator in the oral dosage-form workshop at Shijiazhuang Sihua Pharmaceutical, is at his post.

Formulation is the first step in the production of oral dosage forms. As soon as the task to resume production was assigned, Zhao Shifeng, a formulation operator, along with two colleagues, worked tirelessly to scale up the manufacture of Arbidol capsules in the workshop. On the first day of the Lunar New Year, Master Zhao started his shift early in the morning and kept working until 2:00 a.m. the following day before finally returning home. “The Arbidol capsule production schedule is tight,” he said. “If we fall behind, it will affect the entire workshop’s output, so we have to work overtime to get the job done.”

Han Zhihuan, an internal administrator in the 208 Infusion Workshop at Shijiazhuang Sihua Pharmaceutical, is compiling the health status of workshop employees.

Since the implementation of epidemic prevention and control measures, she has been responsible for monitoring, screening, and compiling statistics on the health status of workshop employees. “Ensuring that all employees are healthy and able to report to work, and thereby guaranteeing a smooth resumption of production, requires us to check on each employee’s health every day. While it may seem straightforward, we must leave no one out—and with a large workshop of more than 800 employees, that’s no small task.” Starting on the first day of the Lunar New Year, she and her colleagues have leveraged their team’s QQ group to clearly explain the importance of the situation, patiently and meticulously gathering information on the health of each employee and their families, and submitting regular reports to the company’s Human Resources Department. “In the face of this major epidemic, both epidemic prevention and control and production are equally important; we simply cannot afford to be even slightly careless.”

Zhao Hao, an employee of the Security Department at Shijiazhuang Sihua Pharmaceutical, remains steadfast at his post.

Zhao Hao and his colleagues steadfastly hold their ground at the gatehouse, conducting daily temperature screenings for thousands of visitors and personnel entering and leaving the premises. “We conduct temperature checks on every single person who enters the factory grounds—round the clock, every single person and every single vehicle—and we strive to be the ‘moat’ that protects the company’s epidemic prevention efforts.”

Ma Xiongwei, a security officer in the Property Management Department of Shijiazhuang Sihua Pharmaceutical, is conducting environmental disinfection of the employee dormitories.

During the special period of epidemic prevention and control, the security staff of the Property Management Department at Shijiazhuang Sihua Pharmaceutical have once again taken on the critical tasks of health monitoring and registration for all entrants and exiters to the company’s office areas and single-person apartments, as well as environmental disinfection. Over these past few days, Ma Xiongwei and his colleagues have been carrying disinfectant tanks weighing dozens of pounds on their backs, going floor by floor to carry out thorough disinfection—spraying continuously as they move, their hands and legs never ceasing. “A little personal hardship ensures the safety of everyone; it’s worth it,” he says.

Jin Zhao, a sales representative in the Procurement Department of Shijiazhuang Sihua Pharmaceutical, oversees suppliers on a daily basis to ensure the timely supply of production materials.

With the emergency drug production lines on the front lines of epidemic prevention and control now fully operational, “ensuring the timely supply of raw materials for epidemic-control products is a heavy responsibility.” Since New Year’s Eve, Jin Zhao from the Procurement Department of Shijiazhuang No. 4 Pharmaceutical has been tirelessly at his post, coordinating with API manufacturers and doing everything possible to secure the urgently needed production materials—day after day, for ten consecutive days. “I have to contact intermediate suppliers no fewer than 20 times each day. As the saying goes, ‘Before the troops move, the supplies must go first’; we simply cannot allow shortages to delay the critical task of epidemic-control production.”

Su Xuejun, Chairman of Shijiazhuang No. 4 Pharmaceutical Co., Ltd. and Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee, stated: “At this critical juncture in our battle to contain and control the epidemic, more than 2,300 employees have been working tirelessly on the front lines of epidemic-prevention production, putting the greater good before personal interests. They have set aside their own families and bravely moved against the tide, spending an extraordinary Spring Festival at their posts—demonstrating profound human compassion through their selfless actions and underscoring the sense of responsibility and commitment that defines pharmaceutical professionals.”

During the Spring Festival, Shijiazhuang Sihua Pharmaceutical’s key production lines for epidemic prevention and control drugs operated at full capacity, with daily output reaching 900,000 capsules of the antiviral drug Arbidol hydrochloride and more than 20,000 bottles (or drums) of a novel composite quaternary ammonium salt disinfectant, thereby providing strong support for epidemic prevention and control efforts.
