On February 2, employees at Shijiazhuang Sihua Pharmaceutical Co., Ltd.’s new-concept disinfectant production line in the Shijiazhuang High-tech Industrial Development Zone were working intensively.

Since the outbreak of the novel coronavirus–associated pneumonia, demand for hygiene, disinfection, and protective supplies has surged. On February 2, at the new-concept disinfectant production line of Shijiazhuang Sihua Pharmaceutical Co., Ltd. in the Shijiazhuang High-tech Industrial Development Zone, employees were working intensively. This high-pressure pace has continued for several days, with more than 150 workers putting in overtime to do their utmost to ensure adequate market supply.

Employees on the filling line of Shijiazhuang Sihua Pharmaceutical’s disinfectant production facility are working at full capacity to accelerate production and ensure supply.

"On January 25, the first day of the Lunar New Year, we received notice from the factory that, due to the urgent need for disinfectants on the front lines of epidemic prevention and control and in the market, we had to restart the production line. Many employees who had just returned home for the Spring Festival—some living in neighboring counties and cities, others pregnant—had barely settled in when they hurried back to their posts, overcoming numerous challenges and making significant sacrifices. Over the ensuing nine consecutive days of production, our staff worked overtime around the clock, doing everything possible to maintain inventory levels," said Han Shuqin, the company’s deputy general manager.

Han Huijuan is the packaging team leader in this workshop and is currently expecting a baby. Since production resumed, she has continued to work steadfastly at her post every day, even in her sixth month of pregnancy, often staying late with her colleagues to meet production targets. She says, “My husband and I are both employees of Shijiazhuang No. 4 Pharmaceutical Company. Our mission is to manufacture medicines to save lives—every extra dose we produce provides an additional measure of health protection for our patients and bolsters their confidence in overcoming the epidemic. It’s only right for young people like us to go the extra mile.”

Employees in the packaging process at Shijiazhuang Sihua Pharmaceutical’s disinfectant production line are stepping up production while ensuring both quality and quantity.

Han Shuqin explained that Shijiazhuang No. 4 Pharmaceutical’s disinfectant products are primarily compound quaternary ammonium salts, used for routine disinfection and protection in medical institutions, pharmaceutical and food-processing enterprises, as well as households. On January 24—the eve of the Lunar New Year—the disinfectant production line had just been shut down for the holiday. Following the outbreak, the company, guided by the broader national interest and in accordance with the requirements of the relevant authorities, promptly organized its workforce to work overtime and step up production of epidemic-prevention drugs and disinfectants. At present, all production lines for epidemic-prevention disinfectants and antiviral and antibacterial medications have been fully operational, with 2,300 employees working on the front lines of manufacturing these critical supplies.

It’s not just the production lines that are bustling—Shijiazhuang Sihua Pharmaceutical’s business operations department is equally busy. “We’ve had nonstop calls from customers across the country demanding our products around the clock, and there’s never a moment’s respite as we coordinate between sales, production, warehousing, and logistics—there’s not even time to take a sip of water.” Wang Tiejun, manager of the Health Promotion Department responsible for selling the company’s new-concept disinfectants, has been shuttling back and forth between the production workshops and the warehouse day and night these past few days, handling customer service while simultaneously coordinating and liaising across departments. “In the face of the epidemic, we simply don’t stop,” he says. No sooner have his words faded than the phone rings again.

Staff in Shijiazhuang Sihua Pharmaceutical’s disinfectant business coordinate the needs of all stakeholders to ensure market supply.

According to reports, Shijiazhuang Sihua Pharmaceutical’s new-concept disinfectant resumed production on January 25 and is now gradually ramping up output, with daily production approaching 40,000 bottles and total output reaching 100,000 bottles or drums. Some of the product has already been dispatched to Hubei Province to support frontline epidemic prevention and control efforts. “As long as there is a need, we will spare no effort, do everything possible to overcome all obstacles in organizing production, and ensure an adequate supply of medicines and disinfection products for the front lines of epidemic control. This is the responsibility and mission of our pharmaceutical company,” said Su Xuejun, Chairman of Shijiazhuang Sihua Pharmaceutical.
