Zhang Yongqin is a truck driver who has long been responsible for transporting pharmaceutical products for Shijiazhuang Sihua Pharmaceutical Co., Ltd.
On the first day of the Lunar New Year, Zhang Yongqin was among the first truck drivers from Shijiazhuang—and from Hebei Province as a whole—to deliver medicines to Hubei. In accordance with guidelines issued by the Ministry of Transport, in order to ensure an adequate supply of drivers to support Hubei, those who had previously traveled to epidemic-affected areas of Hubei outside of Wuhan and passed routine health checks were exempt from the 14-day quarantine requirement. Having covered more than 1,500 kilometers over three days, Zhang Yongqin did not stop for a single moment.
On February 3, at the behest of Shijiazhuang Sihua Pharmaceutical, he set out once again to deliver urgently needed medicines to the front lines in Wuhan. In the early hours of February 5, Zhang Yongqin returned to Baixiang County in Xingtai to refuel; however, because he had just come back from Wuhan, he was detained by the local health authorities for quarantine. On February 8, he was transferred to a quarantine facility in Qiaoxi District, Shijiazhuang, where he continued his isolation.
On February 10, Hebei Daily reporters once again connected with Zhang Yongqin, who was then undergoing quarantine at a designated isolation facility in Shijiazhuang’s Qiaoxi District.
“We’re currently awaiting the results of the pharyngeal swab test, but my condition is otherwise completely normal,” Zhang Yongqin said in a relaxed tone.
“Knowing full well you’d have to go into quarantine upon your return, why did you still go to Wuhan?”
Faced with the reporter’s questions, Zhang Yongqin did not respond; instead, he sent the reporter a video via WeChat.
In the video, a truck driver is seated in the cab, chewing on a pancake while being interviewed.
“How do your family members feel about you going to Wuhan this time?”
“Well, everyone is quite happy.”
“They’re all very supportive—why is that?”
“So because you’re broke, you can just pitch in with your labor, right?”
This video was filmed at noon on February 3, the day Weichai Group donated 200 tons of vegetables to Wuhan. The man in the video is Li Baomin, the driver of the truck that delivered the donated vegetables that day.
After the video, Zhang Yongqin sent another message: “Your question has already been answered for me by a fellow professional.”
