On the morning of April 2, in Workshop 203 of Shijiazhuang Sihua Pharmaceutical Co., Ltd., motors hummed cheerfully as infusion products sped along the production line, poised to be shipped to distant foreign markets. Li Bo, Manager of the company’s Foreign Trade Department, told reporters: “These products will soon be exported by sea to Southeast Asian countries.”
Since the onset of the pandemic, Shijiazhuang Sihua Pharmaceutical has proactively addressed the market disruptions caused by the crisis, maintaining unwavering focus on foreign trade. Building on its existing single-product portfolio of large-volume parenteral solutions for export, the company has optimized its export mix by expanding into the export of finished dosage forms and active pharmaceutical ingredients. With these three key pillars driving growth in tandem, the company has continuously opened up new markets. In the first quarter of this year, its foreign-trade sales increased by 28.71% compared with the same period last year.
To date, Shijiazhuang Sihua Pharmaceutical has obtained nearly 30 international certifications and undergone quality audits in multiple countries, with cumulative export sales to more than 90 countries and regions. The company has also completed registration for over 200 product specifications, including ciprofloxacin lactate sodium chloride injection, metronidazole sodium chloride injection, sodium lactate Ringer’s injection, 18AA amino acid injection, and mannitol injection. In 2019, the company’s foreign trade export value exceeded RMB 200 million, firmly maintaining its position as the leading domestic manufacturer of intravenous solutions in terms of exports, and achieving double-digit annual export growth for eight consecutive years.
Abidor is a new formulation product exported by Shijiazhuang No. 4 Pharmaceutical. “Over the past couple of days, Uzbekistan placed an order for 80,000 Abidor tablets, which has now been formalized into a contract and is being produced on an expedited basis,” said Li Weimin, Deputy General Manager in charge of foreign trade at Shijiazhuang No. 4 Pharmaceutical. He added that this marks the company’s first-ever export order for formulated products.

Saudi Arabia is a newly established trading partner for Shijiazhuang Sihua Pharmaceutical this year. In mid-February, the company shipped nearly 300,000 bags of soft-bag–packaged large-volume parenteral solutions to Saudi Arabia. Currently, Shijiazhuang Sihua’s finished dosage forms, particularly its anti-pandemic products, are undergoing relevant certification and other procedures in more than ten countries and regions, all of which are set to become new members of the company’s international network of partners.

“From raw materials to production and finally to shipment, our manufacturing processes are subject to the strictest quality assurance measures. This ensures that the company’s foreign trade export business is fully aligned with international standards,” said Su Xuejun, Chairman of Shijiazhuang No.4 Pharmaceutical Co., Ltd. He added that the company has invested more than RMB 1.8 billion in technological upgrades for its infusion preparations and active pharmaceutical ingredients. All production equipment and facilities have been designed and constructed in accordance with the world’s most advanced EU standards, and the equipment itself is of world-class caliber. These advantages—unmatched by other domestic infusion manufacturers—provide a robust foundation for penetrating high-end markets in Europe and North America as well as other emerging markets, while also paving the way for the company’s products to achieve global market coverage.
“Over the past few years, we have successfully established high-level research and innovation platforms, including a National Enterprise Technology Center, a National Demonstration Enterprise for Technological Innovation, a National-Local Joint Laboratory, and a Postdoctoral Research Workstation. As a result, our technological innovation capabilities have improved rapidly, and we have put in place a comprehensive, scientific, and well-defined technological innovation system. Our innovation capacity and level have now entered the ‘national team’ ranks, with 168 ongoing R&D projects and nearly RMB 200 million invested in innovation,” said Sun Lijie, Director of the Shijiazhuang Sihua Pharmaceutical Research Institute.
▲ Workers loading and shipping goods.
At the Shijiazhuang No. 4 Pharmaceutical Logistics Center, forklifts are constantly shuttling back and forth as workers rush to load three large transport trucks. Li Bo explained that these are intravenous infusion products being shipped to Vietnam, with shipments departing by sea almost every day during the Spring Festival. He noted that, during the pandemic, Vietnam has imposed a 14-day quarantine inspection on all goods entering its ports. To ensure that buyers can pick up their orders without delay, Shijiazhuang No. 4 Pharmaceutical gives priority to production and shipment for Vietnamese orders, thereby guaranteeing timely fulfillment of contracts.
“Hello, Mr. Harsaid. Today, let’s finalize the details of the commercial contract for the export of 2 million bottles of soft-packaged intravenous solutions that we discussed last time.” On April 2, Ma Xiaoli, Deputy Manager of the Foreign Trade Department at Shijiazhuang No. 4 Pharmaceutical, was conducting a cross-border telephone conversation with Mr. Harsaid, General Manager of Kenya United Pharmaceutical Co., Ltd., to discuss the contract. “Mr. Harsaid visits our company at regular intervals,” Ma Xiaoli said. “Although the pandemic has temporarily disrupted personnel exchanges, we have maintained weekly communication, ensuring that our business not only remains uninterrupted but continues to expand.”
“We honor our contracts without delay, and our phone lines remain open around the clock. Shijiazhuang Sihua Pharmaceutical’s network of international business partners continues to expand, with a steady stream of products being shipped to markets worldwide. ‘Our next step will be to intensify our efforts to promote new products and active pharmaceutical ingredients in international markets, thereby capturing greater market share,’ Li Weimin said with full confidence.”
