As the Spring Festival approaches, the company has been receiving one success after another, further fueling its “Year of Technological Innovation” and providing new momentum for transformation and upgrading. On the morning of January 10, the Hebei Provincial Science and Technology Awards Ceremony and Conference on Scientific and Technological Innovation was held in Shijiazhuang, where organizations and individuals honored for the 2018 Hebei Provincial Science and Technology Awards were recognized and rewarded. The company’s research project, “Key Technology Development and Industrialization of Bromhexine Hydrochloride Glucose Injection,” stood out and was awarded the Third Prize of the Science and Technology Progress Award—marking the second time the company has received a provincial-level science and technology progress award.
According to the introduction, bromhexine hydrochloride exhibits potent mucolytic and expectorant activity and is clinically indicated for the treatment of acute and chronic bronchitis, asthma, bronchiectasis, and pulmonary emphysema, particularly in patients who have difficulty coughing up viscous sputum and in those experiencing dyspnea due to extensive mucus obstruction of the small bronchi. Bromhexine hydrochloride is a commonly used first-line mucolytic agent both domestically and internationally. However, it is very slightly soluble in water, making it difficult to formulate as an injectable preparation; moreover, large-volume injectables are not permitted to contain solubilizing agents or other additives, which could potentially lead to safety concerns such as disulfiram-like reactions and hemolysis, thereby endangering patients’ lives. Consequently, how to develop an injectable formulation while ensuring product quality and safety during clinical preparation and administration has become a challenging issue for the industry to address.
After years of overcoming numerous technical challenges, the company has conducted comprehensive and in-depth innovation and research into the dissolution mechanism and process principles of bromhexine hydrochloride–glucose injection. By leveraging core patented technologies, it has successfully surmounted the dissolution barriers associated with bromhexine hydrochloride, resulting in a formulation process that is simple and easy to implement, enhances labor efficiency, significantly reduces the levels of related impurities in the product, and ensures pharmaceutical stability. In addition, the company has established corresponding production control technologies and a quality standards system, fundamentally improving product safety, markedly enhancing product quality and clinical efficacy, and achieving an internationally leading level of technological expertise.
During the course of this research project, the company obtained a total of three core patents and developed one national pharmaceutical standard. The project has yielded significant economic and social benefits and has earned the trust of numerous medical institutions and patients.
“Scientific and technological innovation has given enterprises the wings to take off and has injected powerful momentum into their innovation efforts,” said Yin Dianshu, Director of the Company’s Pharmaceutical Research Institute. He added that scientific and technical personnel will continue to tackle tough challenges, further accelerate the R&D of cutting-edge technologies, expedite the application of new technologies and breakthroughs, live up to their mission and the trust placed in them, consistently highlight innovation in key common technologies, establish a deeply integrated industry–university–research innovation system, and promote the rapid commercialization of scientific and technological innovations.
