In the brightly lit auditorium of the R&D Center of Shijiazhuang Sihua Pharmaceutical Group, the atmosphere was electric as the group’s 2022 First-Half-Year R&D Work Summary Conference was solemnly held. The meeting systematically reviewed the R&D work conducted in the first half of the year, conducted an in-depth analysis and assessment of the current situation, and outlined and deployed key priorities for the second half. Attending the conference were Qu Jiguang, Chairman of the Board; Su Xuejun, Chairman; Wu Hengyao, President; Shi Jianhui, Secretary of the Party Committee; and Sun Lijie, Executive President. The meeting was chaired by Wang Lijiang, Executive Deputy General Manager of the R&D Center.
At the meeting, the heads of the various departments and divisions of the R&D Center provided detailed reports on the progress of their work in the first half of this year and outlined their plans for the second half. Group leaders Qu Jiguang, Su Xuejun, Wu Hengyao, Sun Lijie, and others reviewed the progress of key research projects and put forward suggestions for improvement.
Sun Lijie, Group Executive President and General Manager of the R&D Center, provided a comprehensive summary of the achievements made in R&D innovation during the first half of this year, objectively analyzed the challenges ahead, and urged all research personnel to strive to break new ground in all areas of work, thereby making fresh contributions to elevating the Group’s high-quality development to a new level.
The conference announced and commended outstanding contributors, individuals who have made progress, and exemplary departments and offices within the R&D Center. Group leaders Qu Jiguang, Su Xuejun, and Wu Hengyao presented certificates (and trophies) and cash awards to representatives of the recognized individuals and collectives.
In his concluding remarks, Qu Jiguang, Chairman of the Group’s Board of Directors, pointed out that in the first half of this year, under the exemplary leadership and hands-on guidance of the R&D team headed by Sun Lijie, and through the concerted efforts of all research personnel, R&D innovation has flourished across the board, yielding impressive results. To date, a total of 22 new-product projects have been approved, with an additional 54 submitted for review; moreover, the number and efficiency of R&D initiatives in specialty generic drugs and active pharmaceutical ingredients rank among the highest nationwide. Against the backdrop of intense competition among pharmaceutical companies, it is a source of great pride for every R&D professional and every member of Sino-Pharm to achieve such outstanding accomplishments. These continuous stream of innovative breakthroughs are injecting strong momentum into the Group’s sustainable development, equipping Sino-Pharm with the confidence and courage to meet any challenge. He expressed his heartfelt respect and sincere gratitude to all research personnel for their arduous efforts and positive contributions to advancing the company’s high-quality, innovation-driven development, and extended warm congratulations to the distinguished R&D teams and individuals who were recognized and rewarded.
After more than two years of relentless effort, Sihua Pharmaceutical’s R&D endeavors are undergoing a historic shift—from focusing on whether or not certain product varieties exist to emphasizing their quality and excellence. Not only has a relatively robust R&D system and mechanism been established, but the company has also assembled a talented team characterized by a spirit of innovation and tenacity, poised to advance R&D to even higher levels. In the face of the new landscape of intensifying industry competition and development, Qu Jiguang has urged the R&D department to adopt a more proactive attitude and take decisive action: set ambitious goals, strive for world-class standards, accelerate the pace of industrial innovation, address critical gaps in development, narrow the gap with industry leaders, keep abreast of the latest trends, and continue scaling new heights.
To further enhance R&D and innovation, Qu Jiguang made the following requirements: First, new breakthroughs must be achieved in accelerating the development of specialty generic drugs. Leveraging collaboration mechanisms with universities and research institutes, we should strengthen the review and approval process for project initiation, re-examine both ongoing and pipeline projects, and shift the focus of R&D portfolio adjustments from primarily expanding capacity through incremental additions to a balanced approach that both optimizes existing assets and enhances new initiatives. Second, new progress must be made in advancing the R&D of innovative drugs. We need to stay closely attuned to the cutting edge of both academic research and market trends, clearly prioritize projects based on their urgency and importance, and accelerate breakthroughs and advancements in key projects. Third, R&D and commercialization must be given equal emphasis, ensuring that more new products are successfully brought to market and deliver tangible benefits. Fourth, efforts to build and develop talent must be further intensified by refining the structure of our talent pool, strengthening targeted recruitment and training, and enhancing the precision of our talent-development strategies. While continuing to attract high-caliber, industry-relevant talent, we should also cultivate and identify promising individuals through hands-on experience—by assigning them challenging responsibilities, entrusting them with key projects, and leading teams—in the course of actual research and development activities.
Striving is the very essence of happiness, and those who strive are truly young at heart. At present, Shijiazhuang is presenting the biopharmaceutical industry with a rare opportunity to achieve breakthroughs ahead of others, making “striving” the defining theme that aligns with the progress of our times. Qu Jiguang warmly encouraged all R&D personnel to be bold in their efforts, dedicated to service, and willing to take responsibility; to maintain a humble and prudent attitude, free from arrogance or impetuousness; to compete in striving, unite in striving, and persevere through hardship—embracing the spirit of “Only we can revitalize Shijiazhuang through practical action; if not us, who else?”—so as to shoulder the mission entrusted by the times, forge a brighter future through hard work, and realize a better version of ourselves through relentless striving.
Now that the winds are favorable, it is the perfect time to set sail; let us spur our horses on and press forward with renewed vigor. The summary conference deeply inspired all R&D personnel, who unanimously pledged to carry forward the fine tradition of daring to tackle tough challenges and delivering results through diligent and pragmatic work, to forge ahead with sustained effort, live up to our mission, and contribute the strength of Sino-Pharm’s R&D team to promoting the Group’s high-quality development, helping Shijiazhuang City surpass a GDP of one trillion yuan, and achieving breakthroughs in the biopharmaceutical industry as a pioneering sector—thus welcoming the successful convening of the 20th National Congress of the Communist Party of China with outstanding achievements!
