Shijiazhuang Sihua Pharmaceutical Designates 2019 as the “Year of Technological Innovation”

The 19th National Congress of the Communist Party of China emphasized that innovation is the primary driving force for development. At the start of the new year, Shijiazhuang Sihua Pharmaceutical Co., Ltd., a leading pharmaceutical enterprise in our city, designated 2019 as the “Year of Technological Innovation.” On January 21, all research personnel from the company’s Drug Research Institute gathered to hear the institute’s director and relevant deputy directors individually outline the 2019 innovation objectives, clearly defining the responsible individuals, specific targets, timelines, and performance metrics.

“This year, we aim to secure several significant new-product manufacturing approvals and make solid progress in the research and development of Class 1 new drugs, thereby further fueling the company’s transformation, upgrading, and high-quality development!” said Qu Jiguang, Chairman of Shisi Pharmaceutical, expressing strong optimism about the company’s innovation.

As 2019 dawned, Shisiyao witnessed a series of significant achievements in research and development innovation: after five years of intensive R&D, three specifications of ambulatory polypropylene-plastic vials containing ambroxol hydrochloride injection—combining three formulations into one—and two specifications of tirofiban hydrochloride sodium chloride injection were granted national drug registration approval. Following last year’s receipt of the Provincial First Prize for Scientific and Technological Progress for a research project, in January this year the project “Key Technology Development and Industrialization of Bromhexine Hydrochloride Glucose Injection” once again stood out and was awarded the Provincial Third Prize for Scientific and Technological Progress.

The 19th National Congress of the Communist Party of China encouraged innovation and called for the cultivation and development of a large number of high-caliber innovative talents and teams. In the just-concluded year of 2018, Shisi Pharmaceutical deepened the construction of its innovation platforms and the management of its innovation workforce, establishing a high-level innovation team comprising more than 400 members. Through continuous refinement, a well-structured, scientifically sound, and clearly defined system for technological innovation and a robust performance appraisal mechanism have steadily matured and begun to generate a “fission effect,” resulting in a steady stream of new products and cutting-edge technologies that are highly encouraging.

In 2018, Shisi Pharmaceutical was recognized by relevant national ministries and commissions as a National Enterprise Technology Center and a National Demonstration Enterprise for Technological Innovation. Coupled with the previously established National-Local Joint Engineering Laboratory for Quality Control of Chemical Injection Products, these high-level innovation platforms have increasingly strengthened their support for the company’s innovation efforts. The project “Establishment and Application of a Quality-Control Technical System for Soft-Pack Large-Volume Parenteral Solutions” won the First Prize for Provincial Scientific and Technological Progress. Meanwhile, the number of newly developed products and patent applications has grown rapidly, with the company’s portfolio of invention patents ranking among the top in the industry. A series of new products, including moxifloxacin hydrochloride sodium chloride injection, sodium acetate Ringer’s injection, and hemofiltration replacement solution, have been successively put into production.

The unleashing of innovative potential has effectively invigorated the market. Grounded in both domestic and international markets, Shisi Pharmaceutical has focused on enhancing both the quality and quantity of its business growth. In 2018, the company added more than 200 new customers, while expanding its market share for higher-value products such as stand-up pouch infusions, double-layer sterilized infusions, and small-volume injectables. This has strongly supported the sustained and rapid growth of sales revenue from its core products, further consolidating and strengthening its leading position in the industry. At the same time, the company’s capability in international operations has improved markedly: last year it developed 37 new international clients, completed five international quality audits and certifications in countries including the Netherlands and Pakistan, secured product registrations in a total of 83 countries, and achieved consecutive year-on-year increases in export volumes. As a result, the company has been recognized for two consecutive years as a “Leading Enterprise in Formulation Internationalization,” making this a new highlight of its innovative business strategy.

“Innovation-driven development must be forward-looking; we must build a high-level R&D and innovation hub that provides a robust platform for top-tier talent to fully demonstrate their capabilities.” Qu Jiguang revealed that the Shisi Pharmaceutical drug R&D platform, pilot-scale testing facility, and industrialization support project located in the Shijiazhuang High-tech Industrial Development Zone are nearing completion and are expected to be commissioned within the year. Leveraging this project, Shisi Pharmaceutical is positioning itself at the cutting edge of international pharmaceutical quality-control technologies and engineering, while grounding its efforts in the domestic chemical-drug and injectable-products industries. Adopting an integrated “industry–academia–research” model characterized by multidisciplinary collaboration and multi-faceted partnerships, the company will not only focus on the discovery and translation of major innovative drugs at the national level but also accelerate the depth and breadth of its innovation across key therapeutic areas—including antimicrobials, cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases, respiratory disorders, and psychiatric conditions—as well as in the development of novel chemical entities. Through these initiatives, Shisi Pharmaceutical aims to achieve new breakthroughs in core technologies, thereby building new momentum for the company’s innovative, green, and high-quality growth.
