With the winds at their backs and sails fully hoisted, hundreds of boats race across the waves. On August 26, Shijiazhuang Sihua Pharmaceutical Group held a mid-year summary and awards conference for its R&D efforts, reviewing and assessing the first half of the year’s R&D work while outlining and assigning priorities for the second half. The meeting was attended by group leaders Qu Jiguang, Su Xuejun, Wu Hengyao, Shi Jianhui, Sun Lijie, and others, and was chaired by Wang Lijiang, Executive Deputy General Manager of the Group’s R&D Center.
At the meeting, heads of the various departments and divisions within the Group’s R&D Center presented reports on the implementation of the first-half research plans and on the strategic priorities for the remainder of the year. The attending Group leaders then provided a comprehensive review and evaluation of the innovative achievements attained in the first half and of the progress made on key research projects.
The meeting announced and commended outstanding employees and exemplary departments that achieved remarkable results and demonstrated exceptional performance in R&D breakthroughs during the first half of the year. Su Xuejun, Chairman of the Group, and Wu Hengyao, President, presented certificates, trophies, and cash awards to the 10 recognized outstanding employees and the representatives of the two exemplary departments, prompting enthusiastic applause from the entire audience in celebration.
At the meeting, Sun Lijie, Group Executive President and General Manager of the R&D Center, provided a comprehensive summary of the new achievements attained by the R&D Center in research and innovation during the first half of the year, analyzed the current situation and tasks, and set forth requirements for further enhancing the quality and effectiveness of research projects and for deepening the implementation of the project bidding management system.
Qu Jiguang, Chairman of the Group’s Board of Directors, expressed his gratitude to all research and development professionals for their arduous efforts and positive contributions in advancing the company’s innovative, high-quality development, and extended his congratulations to the outstanding individuals and departments honored this time. He noted that, since the beginning of this year, the entire R&D team has demonstrated a spirit of hard work and strong sense of responsibility, achieving remarkable results in driving high-quality R&D innovation. In the first half of the year, a total of 41 new products were approved—exceeding last year’s full-year total—and both the volume and efficiency of R&D continue to rank among the highest in the national industry. These achievements have played a pivotal role in the company’s participation in national centralized drug procurement and in comprehensively enhancing its competitive vitality, thereby earning it a solid reputation and widespread acclaim in both the pharmaceutical industry and the capital markets.
Qu Jiguang set forth the following requirements for advancing R&D work in the second half of 2023: First, we must leverage new technologies to strengthen our independent research capabilities and continuously elevate our capacity for innovative development. We should focus on the cutting edge of industrial science and technology, attach great importance to the application of emerging technologies such as artificial intelligence, accelerate the strategic planning and development of the Group’s complex formulations, improved new drugs, and innovative medicines, and thereby enhance efficiency while reducing costs. Second, we must ground our efforts in meeting market needs, striving to achieve a balanced emphasis on both the quality and quantity of R&D and translation, so that more new products can deliver tangible benefits and contribute to societal well-being. We must remain problem-oriented, proactively pioneering and developing novel drugs in areas such as difficult-to-imitate medications, innovative medicines, antibody therapeutics, and new and complex formulations. Third, we must thoroughly implement the talent-strengthening strategy and expedite the building of an innovation hub. We should place high priority on attracting, cultivating, and effectively utilizing top-tier R&D personnel specializing in new compounds, complex formulations, and innovative medicines, with the aim of quickly fostering a “goose-formation” effect that draws and retains outstanding talent. To this end, we must skillfully deploy a comprehensive “combination punch” of identifying, nurturing, employing, accommodating, and attracting talent. Moreover, we should fully capitalize on the complementary resources and synergistic innovation advantages of university–enterprise collaborations, providing more researchers with opportunities to engage with the most advanced technologies and stay abreast of global cutting-edge technological trends, thereby using conceptual innovation to drive scientific and technological innovation.
The summary and commendation conference greatly inspired the broad ranks of scientific researchers, who pledged to live up to the times, cherish their youthful years, and fulfill their mission by wholeheartedly tackling the year’s established research tasks. They committed to delivering outstanding results through innovation and value creation, thereby making new contributions, achieving new milestones, and forging new successes in supporting the Group’s and Shijiazhuang’s biopharmaceutical industry in its drive for innovative, high-quality development.
